Game won't start
I was able to play Deathloop for about 15 hours with no issues, when suddenly the game would not launch anymore.

Things I have unsuccessfully tried to remedy the situation:
- made sure graphic card is up to date (NVidia version is 496.76)
- verified integrity of game files (no errors)
- ran the game as Administrator
- included the game in my Antivirus exclusion list
- disabled overlays from Steam and NVidia
- rebooted PC
- restarted Steam
- made sure Windows is up to date
- reinstalled the game via Steam
- deleted local save game file
- launched the game in Windows 8 compatibility mode.

The famous infamous "access violation" error.
Hope they get this fixed soon.

Thanks for spotting that! I was lost as to what I should look to do next. A ticket is opened with Bethesda as well, hopefully there will be a fix.
Pibo47 Dec 2, 2021 @ 8:46am
YO SAME. I am about 14 hours in, then it will not launch at all. I am getting so annoyed lol.
Rhadiel Dec 2, 2021 @ 9:16am
One thing Bethesda suggested in their ticket is to disable cloud saves. That didn't work for me tho, hope it helps someone else.
faze Dec 2, 2021 @ 1:29pm
what i did is verify integrity files on steam on death loop then restarted my pc then the game worked don't know why that worked iv also heard from others if you go in to the bios and turn aes on it should work haven't tried myself tho
medkip Dec 2, 2021 @ 5:53pm
clearing prefetch files helped my problems with this game launching
Rhadiel Dec 3, 2021 @ 8:30am
@medkip, how do you clear prefetched files?
Rhadiel Dec 3, 2021 @ 8:50am
UPDATE

The game now starts again, after Bethesda support assisted me in running several diagnostics on my system.

The one that apparently fixed the issue was a SFC scan (run sfc /scannow from command prompt).

Hope this helps!

Glad you're able to continue playing :-)

Same problem here. I played yesterday just fine. This morning it will not start. Trying the sfc scan, then if that does not work I'll try the verify integrity scan, etc...
Scorpion62 Dec 4, 2021 @ 4:17am
Ok, it's working for me now. Neither of the options above worked immediately. After running both the sfc scan and the verify integrity scan it still did not start. So, I rebooted my pc and now it starts. ???? Oh well.

Not knowing about an error message in your case it's hard to say what the cause is/was.

Access violation error can be memory corruption, both volatile RAM/VRAM or persistent drive storage. Sfc and steam integrity check address the drive storage.
Furthermore, it can be from game's bad memory management itself. Or any other process messing with the memory, like a copy protection. Who knows, that's up to bethesda to analyze and communicate.

Had the same issue today, tried everything suggested here, didn't work - what worked was simply turning off the web browser (Firefox), then it started without any issues. Weird cause I had Firefox running when it worked yesterday and every other day.

As always it's recommended to close any unused software to free as much ressources as possible for gaming.

Do you have the Windows page file enabled? Sounds like you ran out of memory maybe.

Imo that has nothing to do with firefox, but with deathloop itself. I had one crash, and one major fps drop, yet in more than 70 hours of playing. Pretty random.
ronzilla Jan 8, 2022 @ 6:47pm
I had the won't-start problem too, after playing for many hours successfully. What solved it for me was creating a shortcut of the .exe (in steamapps/common/deathloop), putting the shortcut on the desktop, and launching the game from the shortcut.
