Report a translation problem
You should have an overlay on the screen telling you the code. Did you go to Fia's and find the paintings there? Once that is done it should put the code in floating letters like the other messages.
I can second this. It is most likely not in the spot you are looking at.
Though to be fair in my playthrough this specific puzzle was bugged. I had a different bug though where one of the paintings just didn't translate to a journal entry and I had to guess a number. But after I entered it correct once, I had the hovering numbers for the rest of the playthrough.
