Is this really a 10/10 game?

It looks good, but a perfect score is really high praise. I haven't played the game before but I would say it probably would be like an 8 out of 10 like most decent games?

Eh, I'm an old fart (35) who has been playing this style of game since 2000 (when I played System Shock 2 for the first time), and I can say that 10/10 is way overhyped. Arkane's own Mooncrash explored the same central concept in a more interesting way.

The silver sapling comment was just that as a save/load game I assumed it didn't actually get used much - I just saved and loaded myself. And that's a good point about checkpoint saves being more punishing - maybe it's because souls is less punishing that they felt more okay with setting up a bunch of one hit kill traps/attacks so that it feels more punishing.
I think I didn't notice the issues you're mentioning with DS1 as much because I'm less good - I rarely tried to roll anything but sideways, though I do remember the odd wrong direction roll and delayed post-damage roll, now that you mention it. I guess I didn't feel like the action/RPG balance was too drastically off between the two, besides O&S (which I didn't like) and vanguard demon (did anyone like that?), most DS1 bosses weren't too frantic.

Good point on Dishonored 2 - in 1 it was a whole temptation to go lethal, but the slide and jump takedowns are so strong that in 2 it's really just which button you hit.
Youngblood was Arkane Austin? I hadn't even realized it was an Arkane game...or, honestly that it existed. I'm with you on Arkane Austin - Prey was better than Dishonored 2, but maybe without Colantonio they have less confidence. Also the marketing for Prey was horrible - the weird franchise use and the horror marketing instead of trying to connect it to System Shock/Bioshock. I didn't buy it until trying a demo quite a bit later and realizing it wasn't the game they were selling it as.

Agreed on Arkane's marketing in general. I bought Prey on day 1 because I knew what it was, and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a game's launch so much (I think I spent something silly like 30 hours on it in 2 days), but their marketing actively chased me off of Mooncrash, and I didn't buy it until it was on a deep sale; as soon as I actually played it, I immediately regretted waiting.

And yeah, Arkane Austin was one of a few studios that worked together on Wolfenstein Youngblood. It seems like after the commercial failure of Prey and Mooncrash that they've been demoted to churning out assembly-line shooters for quick cash; let's hope that Redfall is actually nothing like what it's being marketed as (although I don't have a lot of hope for that).

As someone who hasn't spent a ton of time on the internet for awhile, it's disturbing to realize the impact media has had on many people.

You're a human being - you can have dignity, you can think for yourself. You don't have to let yourself be brainwashed into dehumanization. Why let someone else control you? Just to feel superior? Do you? Is it worth it?

If every opinion is subjective and game critic sites people just give their opinions... Then why the ♥♥♥♥ is it acceptable for a persons opinion to be so much more relevant to a games success than all the other players, some of which who actually completed it? The 10/10 reviews are made by such complete amateurs its almost disgusting that this is the standard of profesional reviewing of a game. Review scores SHOULD be meaningless considering all that, they are pretty far from it however and it drives me mad honestly.

Dark Messiah is great. If it is the weakest of Arkane games it's still better than most of other games out there. Just shows how damn good studio Arkane is. A sole surviving immersive sim developer. Such a shame.

10/10 is not a "flawless work of masterpiece perfection" - it just met all of the expectations of the reviewers. This is a really good game with aspects that reviewers and gamers love - power fantasy, easy-mediocre difficulty, "pick up and play" mechanics, immersive environment, soundtrack is unique and fun, ....

All the things to make it 10/10 are there.

Ugh, I'd hope not - that weird nonsense happening once was enough. Besides, I'm pretty sure this isn't a big enough deal in the culture war, it'd just distract from whatever the current imaginary enemy is.

To be clear, I wasn't agreeing with Kristofff - people in this thread were having differing opinions and he felt the need to show up and spout meaningless buzzwords because that's what you're supposed to say to the "libs". Although this is "Deathloop" and not "Abortion and Gun control simulator 2021 (now with 50% more Obama)" so I'm really not sure why enjoying it stops you from being Republican.

You've never played a real character action game, have you? Dark Souls's combat is absolutely atrocious. Demon's gets away with this because it's not a game about combat (it goes out of its way to make gear selection and preparation more important than the fight itself, something that Dark Souls doesn't do because it's trying to be an action game).

In all ways Dark Souls is just a better game, that took what Demon's did and did it right...

Dark didn't even take a lot of what Demon's did. Non-elemental weapon damage typing is almost completely removed (unlike Demon's, where enemies in almost half of the game's area were near immune to multiple damage types), builds are inherently less flexible for a lot of reasons, and it's an entirely different genre of game that happens to be built in the same engine.

"DS1 only being good cuz people wanted it to be good cuz Demon's was an exclusive", then, well, whatever floats his boat, someone has to get the clown awards

I mean, it's not even close to the first time that has happened. Remember when XBox kids pretended Ninja Gaiden was as good as DMC even though it blatantly isn't because it's all they had that wasn't an FPS? Or when PS kids pretended that Killzone was a great game and totally on par with Halo because they didn't have a decent FPS? Dark vs. Demon's was just the PS3/X360 version of that same old tale.
