Sure I will post this shortly. We actually are testing a new one in our first update.
The other piece of info you need to know about is the momentum bar which is the three empty boxes under your health bar. This will fill up as you hurt your opponent and will decrease as your opponent hurts you.
Once the two wrestlers lock arms you will notice they lift their feet and stomp down. You want to hit your light button as soon as the foot comes down if you win you will put them in a headlock and can perform a move by tapping a button and a direction. Make sure you only use the strength of move based on how much momentum you have. If you opponent wins they will perform a move on you.
If you tie this is where the button mashing comes in, MASH that light button. You will trade punches in a best of 3 attacks, the first to win two punches will put the opponent in a headlock. Once you get your opponent in the headlock you can perform a move. BE CAREFUL, only use light moves if you have an empty momentum bar. If you have one box filled you can do a light or medium move, if two boxes are full then you can do a light, medium or strong move. When picking the strength of the move also push the stick in a direction to choose the move you want to perform.
If at anytime you perform a move that you do not have the momentum for your opponent will automatically reverse. For example if you push the strong button early in the game when you have little momentum.
I found when I first started playing my instinct was to mash, mash, mash. Once I slowed down and only hit the move button one time at the start of the grapple I started to really get the timing down. Breaking the mashing habit can be hard, but you can do it.
I hope this helps some of the new players. I would love to hear others tips as they learn more.
We are making changes and the Steam version is going to be updated shortly. Please give it another try and see if you like it more.
Press the weak button by his head.
For me personally, It made a difference in how I play and I appreciate that it isn't purely random. It's a breath of fresh air compared to wrestling games with similar mechanics. Adds a bit more strategy to the action.
Spicycrab already wrote up a great description of how it works in another thread.
I also think you should consider adding some kind of description of this system in the actual game for people.
