I find funny that the monkeys are the "good guys" this time.
Consider dropping the life system, i personally feel that doesn't really add much to the gameplay. Or make it a toggle option or reset the value after a stage if it's lower than the starting value or something of the sort.
It would be nice to have the option to do a barrel-roll when double tapping the d-pad/stick.
And if by some reason you feel ambitious, a mode with a "real-time" map where stuff is happening behind your back like Star Fox 2 would be great.
Splash Damage
why am i suggesting it?
for the times when there are more enemies than the missiles you currently have
How would it be implemented?
a small explosion that can take down a nearby ship, not massive like the game it takes inspiration from, just small enough for those specific lines of enemies
i like that the game isnt trying to be 100% star fox but take 64 as an example, when you made a charge shot, the explosion was big enough to destroy a nearby enemy because you could only make one of those at the time, i know additional missiles solve this issue but asmentioned above, sometimes you dont have enough missiles to clear the enemy line with a single string of charge shots
a possible disadvantage is that it could just take away the whole point of the extra missile powerups, at least for those specific instances
---
another thing that could be implemented are Bonus points for hitting multiple enemies with a single charge shot which would encourage to aim wisely for a bigger score
---
those are probably personal issues but i still wanted to share it and see opinions from other people. Originally i was going to suggest free aim like in 64 (holding L+R disabled autoaim) but this game is too fastpaced for that, and thats cool
reallly excited for this game and i dont really care if this is actually implemented or not.
thanks for making this random person smile and get excited for the release of a game
The gameplay feels awesome. bombs and the attacks feel great and responsive, and the boss battles were well designed and fun.
That being said, there was some things the felt a bit off.
Overall, still a great game and I have it wishlisted to see future development updates. Can't wait to see more progress on this.
My only concerns about this game honestly are exposure. I came across this game with the equivalent of going to the game store and seeing a cover art that catches your attention. I hope there's SOME form of advertising done for the game because, BASED OFF THE DEMO, it really deserves a good amount of attention.
We've been asking nintendo for a proper star fox follow up, and this team said fine we'll do it ourselves. Its that good
Edit: I suppose voice acting would've been nice now that i think about it. Part of the charm of star fox has been hearing the banter. But oh well, i'd prefer no voice acting rather then crappy voice acting
I just found it strange in some moments the scenery was clean and out of nowhere the ship was hitting, the Steam achievement didn't sprout in the first phase (the achievement of Defeating the boss).
I can't wait to see the rest of the game and some friends are even interested and put it on their wishlist <3
Usually when I want more accuracy or when i'm in shmup mode. XD
Being able to use both would be cool but its not the end of the world if it has to be one or the other.
As a fan of SF64 myself growing up there are a few audio cues I was missing from this game:
1. Charging laser SFX
2. Fully charged SFX (for the missiles in this game)
3. Shooting indestructable things makes a tink sound to cue that I cannot destroy it (big asteroid level)
4. Post-level line growing SFX connecting to the next planet.
5. Also the camera zooming in/out of the planet selection screen make a low and slow woosh sound.
One visual nit:
1. lasers don't cast shadows. Lasers are light which means you would never see a shadow for it
Gameplay nits:
1. Bosses seem to use the big, slow moving electric ball attacks often. I loved the bosses but each one had this attack.
2. I had no idea I was the monkey girl. Maybe a short intro cutscene akin to the source games would clue me and other players in. You have the 3D model for the heroine here so a quick zoom into the spaceship and seeing her chat before panning around and back to the smaller model would work
3. I had no time to respond to Data Chip stage levels. Waiting for me to press A would have been nice. I was also entirely unsure what was going on so maybe collecting the chip says "Secret Stage Unlocked!"
4. Speaking of the secret stage, I enjoyed this stage less than the game itself and didn't enjoy collecting those data chips because of it. I think it's because when I get hit, the stage pauses and she does her hurt animation. If she slowed down but kept running, I think I wouldn't have minded it but bringing the flow of the game to a halt hurt my experience.
Maybe I just need to get used to it, I wasn't entirely sure if this might be a little harder than StarFox or not because I got everything done the second time as far as I remember, with less upgrades. Maybe I haven't found my "XBOX Controlls" yet, I believe you were able to change buttons?
I use an XBOX Controller and had some problems with locking onto the enemy and shooting a bomb after that in chase it even worked.
I was still getting used to the world there and wish the demo would have stayed again, wanted to show it to my brother just now.
Often enough I missed the sudden upgrade that appeared to far away from my ship.
Can't remember which boss, might be the scorpion? did an attack that kinda shot at you and moved it weirdly across the screen. I remember once I wasn't sure how I should even evade that and the second time it appeared I was just in a lucky spot for the attack.
That's all that I remember.
I suppose that's part of how I felt. I think at some point I want the game, I'm just not sure when since I kinda got suprised by the game two days ago.
