A small Game with not many Maps but still a lot to play. You need to be careful to use your Inventory well. You never know what you need next. So you need a good Micromanagment over your Inventory & Budget.

So this is a fourth game in the series and i'm so glad it went back to the style of the first game. I didn't like Hero of the Kingdom III, endless grinding and farming was boring and the game just dragged too long due to repetitive tasks.
In this game enemies and materials do not respawn which makes the game more enjoyable and doesn't require grinding.

As always it has a simple story to tell through dialogues. You're obviously a hero (duh) who finds a little boy and go on a journey with him meeting bandits, vicious animals and even a dragon on the way.
You do side quests from townspeople and collect materials to complete those quests. Everything is balanced well in my opinion. To do something you need to go somewhere else, gather materials, make food/potions, buy weapons/tools, go back and so on. Nothing special but it's pretty fun.

This game is basically the same and i think maybe developer should think of something new. Sure it's risky because it might end up a failure like the third game. Maybe don't take risky steps? Improve the story, make it more engaging and deeper, i wouldn't mind to read more. Maybe a new mechanic would help. Nevertheless even if it stays the same i'll probably buy the next one.

Graphics didn't change, same 2D style which looks pretty enough. There's a lot of areas to explore, each of those looks good. Maybe dungeons could use more variety.

This is a 2€ casual hidden object game with some light rpg elements, so if you enjoy similar games it's worth buying on sale. This is one of those games when you can't stop playing until you finish it.

Oh my God, what a night....
Well, yesterday was simply planed. Home after work, dinner, chilling, planing to continue ENDERAL and having a look at the Friends Activity List, what they did that day.
Worked very well, until that moment i saw the new Game that a nice Friend, hi Tala :-), bought.

Hero of the Kingdom: the Lost Tales 1

In my head it began to work. Remembering Hero of the Kingdom 1 -3, many hours of playing and not to forget the addictive "just one more click".
LONELY TROOPS did it. They released a new part.
The Rest is more history.
Bought it, installed it, played it into the night, got all achievements (All fair) and that all in 4 hours.
LONELY TROOPS did it again. They got me.

So, what is this Hero of the Kingdom (HotK) all about?
It is a short Game, with nice Retro RPG Graphics Style, well fitting music and sounds, a little Story but highly addictive click and go Elements. This Kind of Gameplay is unique. I dont know other Games like this.
You just have to click through the Story. No Time running, just relaxing gaming.
As in every HotK you start as a "noboddy" that meats trouble in a little world, to help and become the Hero of the Day.
This Time a Dragon is attacking a little town and an Orphan Child needs your help. You, yes YOU! have been chosen to fix things right and became the Hero of the Kingdom!

Well, you just start with nothing. You have to collect things, raise your Gold, learn better fighting and more, have to do many Quests to raise your population to get forward. And that is done by simpel und chilling clicking. You have to explore a small world and you can simply travel through the maps by easy clicking like in Hidden Object Games. Oh, by the way, you can also choose for things in every map, like in Hidden Object Games. You can sell and buy things,it has a trading system, too. You can also craft things like potions or food.
Have a look at your health and raise it often as you can. No, you cant die, but each action needs Health and sometimes more. Again LONELY TROOPS perfectly balanced the Game. i was through in one Go with 100% Achievements without beeing stucked somewhere. Good job!

Again the price is worth what you get and yes, Hero of the Kingdom 3 is much bigger and maybe better, but it is like a Movie Series. Seeing again, makes happy.
And that is exactly what this game did. It let me forgot everything that is going on outside like Corona, just for a few hours. But well spend hours.

Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1

I really enjoyed the first two HotK games, as well as this one (hadn't played #3 yet.) You do not need to have played previous games to understand the story, as they are all standalones.

Although this is my third foray into the series, I still don't know what genre they fall in. Casual Adventure/RPG/Strategy? I'm at a loss!

Story:

You are a wanderer, and during your travels you come across a kindred soul: An orphan with nowhere else to go. Together you delve into the mysteries of a tainted city that is being terrorized by a fearsome dragon.

Gameplay:

The game is entirely point-n-click, and consists of buying, harvesting, fighting and completing quests to advance the storyline.

There is a handy-dandy insta-transport MAP available, but I usually walked, as new quests and items can pop up any time.

As you progress you will learn new skills, either as a reward for helping someone or by paying them to train you. You will pop around the territory a lot, as new skills means new things you can spot/do at locations. For example, you can find:

• Mushrooms
  
• Eggs
  
• Crayfish
  
• Crates

Finding these items are like a hidden object game within the game. These items will NOT respawn.

Other skill-related changes you may find in areas include things like:

• Harvesting (flowers, hay, berries, roots)
  
• Fishing (fish and frogs)
  
• Hunting (a variety of animals, from rabbits to bears)
  
• Enemies

There is a little bit of respawning involved with these items (though never the enemies). For instance, fish and frogs may move back into the area after you've cleared it out, but it does take time.

A NOTE on how all of this works: You simply have to have the required items in your inventory, then click on the action you want to take. There is no fast-clicking required and no possible way to die. If you have the the skills and weapons/tools you need, you will automatically succeed.

How much strength it will take to complete each action is predetermined, and is like an inventory item.

Speaking of which, let's get to the interface! The button for your MAP is in the top left corner, Inventory and health in the bottom left, and a menu of things you can eat in the bottom right. I almost always just slept to renew my strength, but if you want to increase your vigor fast, you can eat a lot all at once with the handy button that lets you select x1, x5 or x10 (that button is also available on buying and selling menus)! There are some great gameplay TIPS in this GUIDE. I'd like to point out that taking advantage of the money-making tip will probably shorten your game-time, as figuring out how to pay for everything is a big part of the challenge.

NOTE to the DEVS: Please add a way to track our quests. I did a lot of needless backtracking because I couldn't remember what my quests were!

There are 26 in-game and Steam Achievements, and of course I had to have them all. Unlike the first two games, it wasn't a pixel-hunt to find every last egg and crate, but you do need to find most of them.

Verdict:

This game is very much like HotK I and II. There are a few small improvements, but at the same time, there's nothing new and exciting. If you liked the first games, you're sure to have fun with this one too. If you've never played one of these games, don't worry! The interface is very user-friendly and easy-to-learn. I enjoyed it! Recommended!

I recommend this game. I must say though, I am an older guy, I've had a stroke, and I can only use one hand. I cannot hold a controller so I need something simple. This game was fun for me and I'm sure it would be fun for a younger child. I wish it were longer and the ending was quite abrupt with a couple beasts left to kill.Having said that I know it is a fun and great game for the inexperienced or beginning gamer.

This was an enjoyable entry in the Heroes saga. It's a prequel of sorts, detailing the backstory of Brent, one of the minor and obscure characters in the other games. The title is a bit misleading as you end up simply the hero of a tiny village. Some of the reviews mention that the game is pretty short, but I got a solid 6 hours out of it, even if a solid 15 minutes of that was just buying and selling fish for easy cash. It's shorter and cheaper than Heroes 3, but that's okay. Not every game has to be something you sink 100 hours into. This game is fine on its own merits: all achievement are easy to get, with no grinding required. For example, if you need to hunt 25 animals, you will find 25 animals. If you need to kill 100 monsters, you will find 100 or so monsters. There are only about a dozen or so maps, so there's no grinding or pixel-hunting. Cash isn't a problem; quests are plentiful and fun, and you always feel like you're accomplishing something. This gets a solid two dragonclaw thumbs up!

I love this game. I have played all the games in this series. It's not really a HOG. It's more like the simplest RPG you can imagine. Instead of navigating, you just click on the screen. Instead of ineracting, you just click. It's a bit like having your grandmother create a cross stitch for you in an RPG style because she knows you like it, and then you take mushrooms and stare at the cross stitch and imagine all the adventures you could have in the cross stitch land your grandmother created for you. Wonderful!

The fourth game of the series and the shortest as well as the easiest when it comes to resources management. You play as a wanderer who arrived in a city that has just experienced a dragon attack. He then met a young orphan boy who was bullied by the kids of the city for not having parents. You decided to take the boy into an adventure with you to find the dragon and help the city.

I'm glad to see the fast traveling map is back, as in the third game they've removed this ability, also the camp and good making is not there anymore, instead, you can just eat anything edible you've collected to recharge your stamina, and only woods are used to make a camp to sleep.

They added extra tools and collectibles and resources. Money was not difficult to save in this game as you can buy and sell, as well as catching fishes, those people love grilled fish. The dungeons were a bit tedious as you should keep restocking health potions. Other than that the game is pretty straight forward.

I like the soundtracks of this series, but I found this one has the weakest soundtracks, I preferred the second game's the most. The hinting system is not there anymore, you need to figure out what you have to do next or where have you been, I found this part is a flaw of this game as if you decided to stop playing and return later, you wouldn't know what you've been doing so far.

As I'm writing this review I haven't yet finished the third game which I disliked, I'm not sure if there are any similar mechanics which I mentioned here that they've changed. I recommend this game if you enjoyed the first two of the series.

Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 is the fourth installment of the “Hero of the Kingdom” series and it’s basically the same game as the previous titles, with a new story which acts as a prequel for the other games (narrating the background of one of the less important characters from the other games). It uses the same game engine and graphics as the previous releases, but it is slightly shorter (3.5h - 4h) compared to the other episodes - maybe this is a consequence of the negative feedback that its predecessor received from the community because of how grindy it was.

Just like the previous titles from the series, Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 is this peculiar blend between a time management game without any time limit, a finding-objects game without it really being a HOG and a point & click stripped of any puzzles. Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 takes the main elements of each genre and combines them into something that is unique, but doesn’t fully adhere to any of the aforementioned genres. There are quests and NPCs you have to talk to; you need to gather items that are hidden on the map and use them to complete quests; you need to trade your resources in order to buy items necessary for completing quests and you have to find the optimal way to do all of these these (just like in a time-management game) so that you have enough resources for everything (any action you do also consumes resources). Keeping such a balance might be difficult sometimes (with the risk of you getting stuck) but luckily the loophole for making money that is present in any of the other titles is also available in Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 and you can use this whenever your economy bogs down. In The Lost Tales 1 in particular, it is possible to get by without using this “trick” and without extensive grinding. The game wants to keep it casual for you but lets you decide how casual you want it to be.

Yes, Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 is shorter than the previous installments, but it’s also cheaper than the others. It’s less grindy and more balanced, with a story equally interesting. The gameplay is still overly addictive and if I might say a tad more casual than before (it’s only necessary to acquire skills and not to also level them; the resources rarely respawn, which means that the game is not built on grinding them; tools break less and don’t need replacing that often; the map can be used for fast travelling etc.).

Overall, Hero of the Kingdom: The Lost Tales 1 is an extremely enjoyable and relaxing game, especially worth picking up if you like very casual gameplay or if you’re a fan of the series.

Hero of the Kingdom: Lost Tales is 4th in the HotK series, and serves as a light prequel to the original. Once again, you can enjoy its signature mix of point and click resource management, bartering your way through just about every obstacle that stands in your path. What returning players need to know is that this game is significantly shorter than the originals, but also more streamlined, removing some of the annoyances of the prior titles. Casual game fans can't go wrong with this one.

✅ Very simple to understand. Will appeal to a wide age range.
✅ No more skill leveling: Once you earn a skill, you have complete access to its gathering locations
✅ Fast travel within two clicks to virtually any location with the returning map
✅ Far fewer enemy battles, a real sticking point for game 3
✅ Durability is much better. Tools and weapons will break, but only a handful of times.
✅ Fewer resources to manage. Some familiar items are used only once to finish a quest

❌ The shortest yet in the series, with only a couple dozen screens
❌ Gathering spots refresh less frequently. If you're not careful, you'll be forced to grind gold to buy back essential resources you didn't know you needed.
❌ You can stack consuming food for stamina, but you have to camp one click at a time. This wouldn't be too bad if not for the unskippable sleeping animation.
❌ Weak and predictable plot. But, there is a character tie-in to the older games
❌ Far fewer hidden objects. One of the series' strengths was requiring the player to scour for little details, but there isn't much to find here besides the usual mushrooms, eggs, and occasional crate we've been trained to spot.

For returning players, Lost Tales is one step forward, and one step back. It fixes a lot of minor annoyances of its previous installment, but does so with compromises in other areas. By sacrificing length, the game has less backtracking. By sacrificing skill levels, it's able to eliminate grinding bottlenecks. By sacrificing more farmable resources, it encourages you to study the economy better and make money trading. None of these are inherently bad adjustments, but the game doesn't try to innovate, either. This leads to an experience that may feel a bit too familiar to veterans, wishing for something more to sink their teeth into.

While the game is designed to never allow you to fail, the noticeable scarcity of required resources in certain craftables adds up quickly if you aren't frugal. It's all too easy to sell off what you have to finish an objective, but then you may be forced to buy back those precious resources because you can't find them anywhere else. This is an area that all the games have struggled with somewhat: You never really know what you need beyond the current objective. In general, it's a good idea never to sell off core crafting ingredients (specifically flowers), because they are expensive to replenish.

That said, Lost Tales does allow the player to decide how easy or difficult they want the experience to be. There are exploitable trade loops (buy ingredients, craft an item, sell it back) that you can find if you study the vendors carefully. With the addition of the bulk purchase options (5x, 10x) it becomes fairly simple to stash gold and power through any surprises by buying what you need outright.

Plotwise, Lost Tales is written in much the same style as the others, which is to say, not particularly well. Don't expect any fancy prose or period accents, especially when Brent uses the immersion-breaking "bro!" You'll see the plot twist a mile away, but this is more a result of the game's small scale and limited characters. Even so, it's enough to entertain for the few hours you'll spend in its world. The game is entirely linear, with no branching choices.

Lost Tales is recommended for casual game fans and achievement collectors, an easy game that can be enjoyed on your own terms. If you do get it, you may want to wait for a franchise bundle which will give you the best bang for your buck.

Achievement Hunters: Straightforward, self-explanatory achievements. Achievements in game hidden by a lock will reveal themselves after you've progressed beyond a certain point, or you can simply look at the Steam achievement page to read their descriptions. Nothing is missable, and if you haven't collected everything by the game's end, simply load up your save to continue your file and enjoy a couple extra epilogue conversations.
