Cultivator doesn't do anything.
I'm trying to establish a new field. I cut the grass and then broke out the cultivator.....and lowering the cultivator does nothing. No cultivation.

Help?

You need a plow to create a field. A cultivator won't work. When you equip the plow there will be an option to create new field.
If you want to make fields I find the Lizard MT subsoiler easier to use than a plough.

Actually it's the only plough I ever use anyway.

It can make fields (default key is "Y" I think). A good precaution is to Turn field making off every time you stop as it's too easy to accidentally make field where you don't mean to (and do a save before starting).

Hey, I'd not seen that one (been using the other since 19) I must get one, thanks.

Might be a bit unwieldy for outlining a field though, unless it's like a really massive field :steamsunny:

There is also a mod that will allow you to use cultivators to create fields (I believe the name is Cultivators create fields). This allows you to toggle between "Create Fields"or "Limit to Fields" at any time.

Note that even though these cultivators are now able to create fields, they do not create the "Plowed" status as a normal plow would. So if you have the option Plowing required turned on, you will still have to occasionally plow the field.

I personally use a small 3-point cultivator that is about the same width of the tractor, so that I can create the outer edge of my fields. This smaller rig is much easier to control on turns, & when cleaning up edges, since it is "locked" to the tractor, & doesn't pivot as implements with a standard hitch.

The ones that Mark and I both linked are also locked to the tractor and provide the plowed status. Worth looking at for creating larger fields.

As long as you use your compass as a guide, even the largest one is easy to use and accurate.

I use GPS to set nice straight edges when I am creating my fields. And then just freehand the few angled areas in some of the fields.

I never worry about trying to make nice clean edges when making fields with a plow because it is very easy to fix with the Paint tool afterwards.
