the lighting is ♥♥♥♥

i'm losing my mind trying to get the shadows to not be dark as the abyss while not making my game look bright as the sun and colors washed but it's impossible because the default lighting is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass

Been like that since day 1 of release and they haven't changed anything about it within those years either. Has and will always be horrible lighting on this one. I detest the way they have done the sunlight as well but nothing is going to change it, so best things it so not look at it as much as possible lol.

A lot of mod maps try to improve things with their own lighting definitions but it's never great. I often find myself using vehicle lights in shadow areas (the "Increased Light Range" mod is a great hep there.

If you have any extra lighting (colorGrading.xml) files the mod "Additional Game Settings" will let you switch between them and includes a few of it's own (and the base game has two or three available).

Seriously, check out the relight mod, To make my case I have made some screenshots to show how much more capable it makes the game in terms of contrast, richness of colour pallette and at producing both dark shadows and bright colours at the same time:

i can't i use geforce now and it doesn't allow to install mods outside modhub

geforce now doesn't allow installing files outside the game

it's either this or not play at all because my pc can't run the game so it is what it is
