Giants Map Editor
I apologize if this is the wrong area to post editor issues. But...

On the Giants website there are a lot of users who can't get the editor to run. I've tried everything recommended by the devs but it still will not load a simple map. Nor can I begin a new map. Running it under various compatibility modes does not remedy the problem.

I suspect Giants is using an older version of Windows. If there's anyone here who has managed to get the editor to run under Windows 10, I'd like to know.

You might try the Discord, much more help there than here for sure.

I have the latest version, direct download from Giants. It's a known issue among a lot of players, with just as many, such as Randy, who have no problems. The devs are sort of on the other side, maintaining that it's either a hardware issue, an install issue, etc.

I ran the FS19 map editor with no problem. Most editors are home-brewed, except in the case of Unreal, Unity, etc. And some, such as the Thief 3 editor (a hacked version of UnrealEd) could only run reliably on a server, where you had a team working on the game.

I did have a problem after a windows 10 update, but that was with the FS19 editor.
Ran perfect, untill i had an update that just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the editor, which i could only solve by a W10 reinstall.
So it COULD, be a W10 update/software issue.
And its so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating when you wanna use it :D So i feel you.

Just an FYI latest version of giants editor will not open fs 19 maps, not sure what you're intent is. There is a work around I've heard but never used it.

Neither will it open FS22 maps. Nor will it accommodate a new map. Just crashes back to Windows. I tried doing the compatibility thing but without success.

Where or what is the workaround?

Have you set the Game Installation path? Inside the Preference menu under General settings tab. I might be wrong on this but this is what i change when i switch between the different versions

I uninstalled FS19 months before buying FS22, so the path should be fine. I'll double-check just to be sure, however.

EDIT: Double-checked. Still crashes to the desk top.

No problems for me bar the slight oddity that windows insisting that I have two versions installed and asking me which of the (identical) ones I want to use :-)

the work around is only to use the latest GE to open fs 19 maps. There was a post in the giants developer network about that quite a while ago. as for not opening the fs22 maps i found sometimes you have to start ge the from the file menu select open rather than just double clicking the i3d

Yeah, I tried importing, drag 'n drop, File/Open, etc.

What I want to do is modify a few of the vanilla maps for FS22. But since I can't open them, it's a moot point.
