Best way to compact silage/chaff??
Just wondering what the best way for silo compaction is? I've always just used twin wheels on my tractors but was wondering if the leveling/compaction tools are worth it

yeah, definitely helps with it, especially when you're still using lighter tractors, but even the biggest tractors with the most surface area still benefit from it noticably (especially given the cheap prices for the compactors).

Chaff compacts more quickly with a thin layer of material in the silo. Use a shovel or leveling tool to smooth out any piles.

I personally never liked using the compacting equipment, it just felt like it slowed the process down.

I'd say get the heaviest equipment you can, the more weight the faster it goes.

With the biggest Claas wheel loader it took me about 25 minutes to fully compact 1,250,000 l of chaff on my old farm.

Alternatively if you're cool with mods there are some fermenting silos on the modhub that require no compacting.
