You use mods at your own risk. They are not going to stop updating the game, you will have to wait for the modders to update the mods.

No it should be the otherway around, remove your mods, updates are important not just for gameplay but maybe even security fixes (as the game is online, last thing you want is the game creating an entry point for hackers into your system).

But with about 20GBytes of mods on my system I have yet to encounter any serious problems. The only time I did was when Platinum was released and the "better contracts" mod was causing my game not to load that save, I spent a while adding mods until I saw which one it was. However the mod has had an update and now works with that map.
