Loss of proper ground texture?

Since Monday I was unable to find my save game. I had to reinstall and adjust all my settings back correctly. Got back into my game and all the ground textures short of the fields and "paved" surfaces like the roads changed from whatever they were to mud. The whole map. No new mods, no mods that I know of to affect textures. This is on the Vanilla US map. Water also seems to be missing from the creeks, didn't check the ponds.

Any guesses? May uninstall and reinstall again to see if it fixes it. Verifying again as I type.

couple hundred hours into this profile in a realism setting, trying not to lose all that time.

use any mods ? if so look in the log file for errors and warnings and go from there

Error: Invalid customEnvironment given for SpecializationManager.addSpecialization. Should be a string or nil.

This seems to be the only environment error I see, but I don't know of a custom envirronment mod that I have, or a specializationmanager mod either.

Verifying didn't work, re-installing again.

I have dusty lands, real dirt colors and the supporting mods with it too, but I've had those for a while with no issue. Wondering if an update to them broke it.

Started a new game on EC with all the same mods enabled, no issue. Rolled back to a save game backup from last week, everything is kosher.

I mean, I'll lose some time that way, but at least I got it back. I have no idea what happened to that file.
