Rollers
Curious to see if anyone else has this problem. There are two rollers in the shop, a small one and large one. The small one works just fine, but the large one when you unfold it, you can't raise or lower it. It seems to be in a permanent lowered state, but does not actually do anything. If you hire a work, it just gives an error saying no field information found.

Yeah, I think the reason why many thought to do so before seeding is they wanted to remove rocks and think of the roller as only there to remove rocks, not also add yield. I certainly was doing it wrong until I read the post on the FS Academy page for yield and realized I was doing it out of order.

A plus though, with the new patch, it shows you the bonus yield you are going to get for a field. You can now see if you will be getting that full 100% or not.

Pretty sure that, like baling, the AI can't use the rollers. I'm not sure why.

I've seen the no field info message a number of times though, even when it's on kit that I know the AI can handle!

Just used the big roller on my canola field, because the status was needs rolling after I finished seeding. I unfolded it and it dropped straight down. The "needs rolling" status disappeared as I was going over the field, so it appears to be working properly.

First time I have used this roller, so I assumed it was just too big to raise and lower.

No issues with AI on the wee one.

It is odd that only the smaller roller can be raised and lowered. Why not the large one?

Same issue here with the 1230 HD.

Just rolled a field, still says "need rolling".
Tried to hire a worker and "worker X has stopped work unexpectedy - no field found!"

Did you just finish seeding a field? That is when rolling should be done. The field not found error often comes up when you try to have ai do a task out of order.

i.e. trying to mulch a field that has been cultivated already following its harvest. You can no longer gain the 2.5% bonus yield from mulching at that point.

did you roll the field after you seeded and before it starts to grow
because you cant roll before you seed as seeding deletes the status of it being rolled, or after there is growth as its to late to roll after its started growing and the rollers will do nothing

I have AI working the smaller roller perfectly. Wondering if people are trying to roll before sowing is causing the issues?

Ahh right, I think you're all correct (i haven't seeded yet), i'm new to the series :rfacepalm:.

I read that rolling could be done after seeding, I just assumed the field prompts meant "you should do this now".

Thanks

I had a field already growing before the patch came, the new 'needs rolling' status was applied to it, but rolling did nothing. As you say, likely because too far along.

I was trying to roll a field before seeding it, I'll try seeding it first and see if it works then.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Turns out you were right. I seeded a field, then used the big roller and it work fine. Only thing I don't like about it is you can't raise and lower it like other implements, but it does work, but only after seeding.

Thanks.

Yeah, true, but you could fold it to raise it as well. I don't use that one as it is too big for my fields. I use the one slightly smaller.

I use the MaxiRoll 640 Greenline. Works just fine. The only problem I have is that I have a large grass field and it says "Needs Rolling". The grass has been planted for several years already, not fresh. I roll it and it still says that, but the yield goes up and the fertilization state goes up.
