Getting water
HI. I'm fairly new to the FS world. I played it ages ago but that doesn't really count anymore. Been too long.
Anyway, I recently purchased FS 22. I have played a little of the easy mode and tutorial one on Elm...whatever the name of the map.
I have also tried the No Mans Land map on hard.
I have purchased a tanker to get water. However, when I drive the tank up to the pond in the map to get free water, nothing happens that lets me add the water to the tank. It doesn't fill up. As far as I understand it, it will trigger a command that lets you press a key that will allow it to fill up. But that trigger doesn't happen for me. I've tried with 2 different tankers and same thing. Nothing happens.
What do I do? I don't want to buy all the water I need (for green houses and livestock etc).

you have to back down in to the water the press R or I
As magic says just make sure that at least the back wheels of your tanker are in the water and then press "R" (you should see a "refill" hint in the menu).

You can also open up the F1 menu and once the tanker is in a spot to be filled by water (or milk at a cow pen) you will see the refill entry appear and just hit the "R" key to refill.

I have used the F1 window as sometimes when i want to refill something (refill gas in tractor, slurry to tank, milk to tank, water to tank, etc) the spot to refill can be tough to find.

I've tried all that. There is only one body of water on that entire map too, but I can't get either letter R or I to come up on the F1 menu. I try to press any of them anyway but nothing happens. Tank is still 0% filled up.

Is your truck IN the water? It has to be in the water. Not just next to it.

Yes. I've tried it with both the truck and tanker in the water, with just the tanker in the water and then next to it. I've tried it with a tanker connected to a truck and connected to a tractor. Same issue.
I solved it now though by getting a well that provides fresh water, it's just strange that I cannot fill it up in the only body of water that is on the map.

The water also has to be deep enough.

Yeah I figured that too .. and that lake is probably way too shallow. I tried even to get a tank that was lower and more closer to the water. Still didn't work. But I also figure .. it's because that waterdrop symbol is nowhere on that lake/pond as far as I could see.

You couldn't get water on Elmcreek either? I have played that map and had no problem getting water.
What is the exact name of the Tanker you are using? Is it a Mod? If a Mod is it from the in game Modhub?

AFAIK it's map dependend if you are allowed to get water from lakes.
Just tested:
I can't get water from the small lake at the starting farm in "No Man's Land" either.

Edit: It seems like the watertank on the map also doesn't work.

I never could get water from the lake on No Man's Land either.
Also ShutEye: Did you get out and turn the valve for the water tank? It has a manual valve you need to turn on before getting back in and filling the trailer. Once on the valve slowly closes (about 30 seconds of water fill time).

I don't need no one to tell me how to play this game. Over 1,600 hours played, please ....
... hang on *reads* "To use open water valve" ... uh ... NEVERMIND LOL :)

What a strange addition :)

ya. I was stumped too until I saw the Zero Start video and he added the tower for water for the green houses.
I was like: "After so many hours (966 as of April 2023, thanks to not being able to do anything else after open heart surgery), why change the mechanic?"

When I played on elm cr, I was getting water out of the pond behind the bakery. I had a mod truck that couldn't get water out of the pond, but the basegame water trailer would fill. I would fill the trailer, fill the truck from the trailer, and then refilling the trailer again(Always something on the farm I tell ya!)

When Oma Tana came out with her open garden mod, it was a gamechanger for me, because of the little water pump(container menu) and the distributeur tower(production menu). I switched and it is the method, and I use to this day. Highly recommend that mod(or any mod from Oma Tana really)

Dump question: Did you checked your trailer actually can take water?
Some trailers like the AEBI ones have to be modified in the workshop.

Anyways on Elmcreek i found it easiest to get free water at the ford next to the small bridge north to the western interstate junktion.

An alternative is this nifty little mod with the water station. You just place it somewhere, add some diesel and it starts producing water. Since the water is already in the production system you can then just share the water with the production facilities.
Pretty handy if you run multiple greenhouses.
