Start simple - Buy an in-game bucket and when you attach it to a vehicle the Terrafarm menu items will show up and you will see a Terafarm menu appear in the upper left. You will also see some little markers show up on the bucket (if debug is enable in the Terrafarm settigs.)
The reason: TerraFarm MCE, and other MCE (Mining and construction economy)/TP(?) modders, use downloads from clickbait sites that are known to spread virus infections. If you are comfortable with dealing with periodic virus infections and OS re-installs, go for it! If you have an old PC/laptop lying around do you downloads on that device. The mods themselves are safe, the download methods are not.
There are two strains of TerraFarm. The one available on GitHub is safe to download and it does work with some of the modhub buckets. If you stick to the GitHub download, and modhub mods, you should be safe.
IMO you should never use a clickbait download site, download programs that install mods, or use web pages that require you to enable notifications or in some other way disable safety settings. Downloaded FS mod files should work as downloaded and not require you run the downloaded file to install the mod. Downloads that require you to unzip a folder should be considered suspect and only downloaded from trusted sources.
Hopefully the MCE/TP - Giants schism will be overcome someday.
Sure, theres been mods that have caused havoc, never tried it myself and ive downloaded a ♥♥♥♥ ton of mods since i started playing FS2013.
Again, i dont say they arent there, its just not the thing that should scare you off from downloading mods from other sites than Giants own site.
Another thing is their Github, which i dont really think they update that often.
But the modder, or atleast a very active modder for TerraFarm, FS Miner, does link to every mod he makes, in his videoes to the same website. Ive never had issues on that website, so again, im a bit baffled by your view on it.
Is it a clickbait site? No idea. Are the download sites clickbait? I dont know. Im using adblocker, so i dont see all the random advertising crap on sites i visit.
And i think an adblocker would "fix" most peoples fear of using sites other than the modhub itself, but hey ho, what do i know.
And regarding your view on downloading programs to install mods or to disable safety settings, again ive never seen those myself so i cant comment on that, but i can say that if it doesnt raise a flag for the person trying to do this, then i dont think anything can really keep them safe. If common sense and caution isnt present in said person, then how can you or i prevent them from falling into traps?
Zip files inside zip files is just a way to make things "easier" for people downloading.
Lets say you make a map that has a few mods "required" to work as intended, then making a zip file with those "required" mods are, for me atleast, a good way of caring for the end users, instead of making them go look all over the internet for said required mods.
So i find your view on the zipped zip files a bit odd.
Is TerraFarm ever gonna get released on the modhub? I highly doubt it, but hey, you never know :)
