A) preparing
B) seeding & "yield optimizing"
C) harvesting & afterwards
In the "preparing phase", the field's "seedbed" is to be made ready, which involves:
- if field needs it and player wants the small yield bonus, then plow the field
- if player does not have a 'direct-drill seeder/planter', and the field is not already in a 'plowed / cultivated' state, then cultivate (or plow) the field
- if field needs it and player wants the yield bonus, then spread lime on the field (can be performed before plowing / cultivating)
- if field needs it and player wants the yield bonus, then fertilize the field (either both layers or only first layer. Can be performed before plowing / cultivating)
- if stones are in the field and player wants to avoid the very small damage that they do to the equipment (if that game-setting is enabled), then collect stones now (can be done after plowing and must be before seeding)
In the "seeding & yield optimizing phase", the sequence is a bit more strict:
- seed/plant the field (if using a 'direct-drill seeder/planter' then prior cultivation/plowing won't be needed)
- if player wants the very small yield bonus, then roll the field now
- if second layer of fertilizer is needed/wanted, it can be spread to the field now
- depending on player's "realistic playing style", then weeds can be handled even before it become visible
- otherwise let the crop grow once, and then handle any weeds that appears, using either a weeder, a hoe or by spraying herbicide
For the final "harvesting & afterwards phase":
- once the crop have grown to the stage of being ready to be harvest, then harvest it (preferably before the crop withers, if that game-setting is enabled)
- if the crop is grass, and it has been cut/moved, and player wants to collect hay, now is the time to use a tedder for drying the grass
- if the harvested crop have produced straw (or grass/hay), and player wants to collect/bale it, now is the time to do so
- lastly if player wants the very small yield bonus for next harvest, and current field's crop allows it, then mulch the field
I mulch the field next. If there is a crop I don't want to harvest, or if there was a crop that has already been harvested, mulching helps with yield a bit. Obviously you can't mulch a field that hasn't had any growth.
I will then add lime to the field to raise the PH to help crops grow better.
If the field needs plowing, I then plow the field. This will tend to bring up stones to the surface. If the stones are medium or large I will use a stone picker to remove them. This reduces wear on equipment used in that field.
I will then seed the field with a seeder, or planter, that has direct drilling instead of cultivating than seeding. This adds points to the Precision Farming score.
I then roll the field. This pushes down small stones and adds to yield.
If your seeder/planter has built in fertilizing, you can skip fertilizing, but I tend to not use them. So I spray fertilizer separately.
I wait 24 in game hours then I use the see and spray to put herbicide on the weeds. You might not have weeds if you just plowed, but starting the sprayer on the field without weeds will still count towards you having sprayed the weeds in the PF score.
I will then harvest the field when it is ready.
Then I repeat the above steps as necessary.
Grass fields, grapes, and olives follow a different set of tasks.
1: Mulching
2: Lime
3: Direct Seed (No need to plow or cultivate first)
4: Spot Spray (Herbilizer)
5: Spray Herb (Either cow form of cows produce will do)
6: Roll
7: Fertilazer (I use Solid fertilizer)
That link brings us to an FS22 web pages that says "Article not found!"
Never been like this before, started 6 months or so ago and its only doing it with Giants websites. Well, i cant say ONLY Giants sites, but ive never seen these redirecting issues before.
A field that has had crops on it, but hasn't been fertilized still has to be limed to raise the PH from acid to neutral, though.
And it always goes from a low pH number, to a higher pH number, so "raising" is the right word to use. 7.0 is the pH of water, anything lower is acid, any thing higher is basic.
