Sawmill & Carpentry
I'm on Elk Mountain and thinking of getting into forestry. My question(s) are is it better to own the sawmill and carpentry productions both and focus on churning out furniture OR stick with owning just the sawmill and selling planks directly OR just owning the carpentry production and filling it with wood directly to produce the furniture?

Well, both are a slow. You'll want them both. In my game, I also built the paper mill from Silverrun and the piano factory from the premium expansion. I haven't had to do any actual purposeful forestry to keep them all full, just the normal pruning of the landscape as I expand.

Is there a limit to how much raw wood can be sold to these productions, assuming you don't own them?

That I don't know. If I'm remembering correctly, the sawmill is really cheap, so I bought it without considering that.

In the times I've sold to the bio fuels plant right next to it, there hasn't seemed to be a limit.

Of the productions I've mentioned, the paper mill processes the fastest and the piano factory is the best income.

Awesome, thank you for the advice!

Question about the piano factory: how exactly is it meant to function?
I just checked on my Elk Mountain save and it allows me to purchase the Piano Factory under "Construction>Production>Sell Points" but it doesn't seem to function when placed in game, as far as I can tell. In the build menu it shows that it takes in planks but does not show anything else as far as output, and once plopped down it doesn't show up as a sell point for planks in my Prices menu.

You drop off planks, and every 2 months, it sells a piano. No other input from you is needed.

Similar to the boat factory on Silverrun, where the sell is automatic.

The only "restriction" to selling is the set price drop for excess supply.
You can see the price drop/rise ranges when checking out the files for any production and mod placeable.

In addition to monthly changes each production has that "excess value" that reduces your sell value for some amount. Usually this is sorted out giving the sell point/production a month or two to work through the free resources..

Not entirely sure but it seems like that if you're supplying a production you don't own MORE than it can use (productions internal storage gets full), it lowers the price until there's "useable" space.

That's why you might see changes in prices and "best sell points" on any map with points that accept same products. 'You' might be oversupplying certain point and they simply can't offer you enough to pull profit themselves!

Thanks for the information, ProviD.

One more question about building a piano: how many planks are required to build one?
ProviD Feb 14, 2024 @ 9:07am
A Quick Google search revealed that making a Grand Piano takes 4 months and requires 5k liters (5 pallets) of regular Planks. Production works just like the Boat Maker in Silverrun, except you can place it on any map.

I suggests taking a peek at FarmSim Youtubers for quick but in-depth previews of maps, productions, mods etc. Most of them are pretty good at answering the key questions We as the Community and players might have! :)

Thank you ProviD. I actually performed several quick searches and even a couple medium length ones and didn't find the answer I was looking for and as I'm on a metered connection I often can't watch Youtube videos, so thanks again:)
