Will it be FS25 or later? Your thoughts?
Open disclosure: I have and will continue to play/buy FS games.

Even though some iterations only offered slight technical and game-play improvements when compared to others I still pick them up. And the cost per hour of entertainment has made every purchase well worth it.

With all that said I am curious as to what/when you think the next version will be.

Given what even lower mid range computer hardware is capable of today I would argue the current FS game engine has overstayed its welcome.

My guess is we see the next FS in '25 or '26 with a completely new game engine. Even it it was no more than platinum '22 content wise I think a brand new, beefier (no pun intended) game engine with some reworked physics would make all the difference and I would pick it up in an instant.

And so what do you all foresee?

I would be extremely surprised to see a new game engine being used, as the Giants Engine is what their team has developed on and learned to use. Switching game engines isn't as simple as you make it sound, and in this case would require a significant investment in development resources to both learn, and adapt a new engine to work for FS.
I think its impossible to know.

If they're not going to change the engine, I'd rather just see yearly expansions like they're doing now.

Yeah, that would make a lot more sense. But Giants wants to maximize profits, so selling a new game every few years is their gameplan. Personally, I'd love to see a new engine, and a live-service model instead of separate games, but let's be realistic, that'll never happen...

I dipped a little into the game dev world and creating a new engine, which can enhance the game even further from where it currently is, brings more for the devs and the players. And it brings them more up to date

If you look into the history of the FS Franchise, you'll notice that they have always used the same engine, but have augmented it to support whatever technologies they need.

@AlbertKropp I agree a new game engine would require an investment of both time and capital, but I also am one to believe the developers have some long term plan for the franchise and at some point will decided to re-engine the game.

When they do they will have established a new 'base' on which future releases and upgrades can be built.

In my opinion, for what it is worth, I think the developers, if they wish to keep the franchise healthy, will make the leap to a new engine at some point. Rather like developers moving to the most recent version of Unreal.

And the benefits of a new engine and the things that might be achieved/added/better implemented because of it could only server to bring in more players.

So that is why I am guessing a '25 or '26 timeline for the next true FS (as opposed to DLC).

However, as noted above, only time will tell.

Yeah, I don't disagree with your points, just skeptical of their motives.

At this moment i doubt they have any plans on a new game since this ones such a royal mess to start with, even the previous game was more stable than this one.

Depends on your machine or your choice of mods. I never really had problems with the ls22.

Not necessarily, a new game costs 40€, a big dlc for november 20€ and the small stuff inbetween around 20€ together, too. So as long as their dlc and small stuff sells they get the same money they would get with a fresh release.

I don´t expect a new engine, they know theirs best and have modernized it over and over again. Maybe we see a bigger graphic step when they finally stop support for ps4 and old xbox, but i don´t expect it for the next maingame release, for that at last the ps4 is still running too good for to get rid of it.

You're operating on the assumption that everyone who buys the base game would also buy the DLC's. This is not the case, and in-fact most tend to just buy their favorite DLC's, and use mods to keep them playing.
Lord Nighthawk Nov 16, 2023 @ 7:48am
For sure it´s only an assumption, but they are doing it for.....15 years now? If this type of background financing would not work with the dlc they would have already dropped it years ago so there must be at last enough dlc-sales to keep their studio running with enough profit.
tango777 Nov 16, 2023 @ 12:02pm
Dont see any new engine, giants is developing a new game for the kiddos. New game will be just like the one before it, mods and fs22 dlcs= new game. New game will release 10/25/24 or 11/25/24.
iguana0983 Nov 16, 2023 @ 1:36pm
They have been very successful with '22 that I doubt that another one will be hitting the market anytime soon. When the game is awesome as it is, and the updates and new DLC drop here and there.
Delle(DK) Nov 16, 2023 @ 1:56pm
The game engine is okay, BUT what we need are much better map designers.
There are some very good ones who made excellent maps that look like real life, but the official maps have been weak and outdated for +10 years.
This really need to change.
We need a real life looking map with modern graphics.
the vehicles and machine are excellent, but we we need real looking farms, terrain and maps that look like real life ( example go out to a real modern farm and make some photos and use sattelite maps to build a real map that look realistic ).
