Not plowing after these crops will cause a negative yield impact.
2. Periodic plowing is where the soil needs to be re-tilled (if that is the right word) it normally means after every 3rd crop or so you might want to replow again this is to help the yield and help prevent negative impacts.
3. I tend to use straight / square plows for my fields, they tend to require more powerful tractors (I would assume) but because they are "square" in nature they are easier to use (almost like a cultivator)
If you are running small fields you could get away with plowing after each crop as the benefit of cultivating doesn't make sense, plowing removes all weeds and stops weeds growing the next harvest. I don't see any negative sides to not doing this to be honest. Larger fields because you can get bigger cultivators / spaders / disc harrowers (they all do pretty much the same thing) and can tend to do them faster than a plow this is why people would use them, and then only after every 3rd or so crop rotation should you need to spend time plowing the field.
As for missing parts are you using helpers? I find them useless with a lot of things but yeah they tend to miss a lot of the parts causing you to have to go over it all again.
There is information on how it affects the gameplay in the ingame help as cryptic as it is, but this is what I tend to do.
