Potatoes...why???
So I decided to plant potatoes and now I remember why I never do them.
I am playing on Silverrun and working a custom field that I create after clearing the trees.

Using the tractor and the foilage remover, i was watching all my potatoes get destroyed. I have narrow tires on my tractor too.

I have to assume this is bugged?

There are times however when the potatoes do not get destroyed and ill get either 2 or 3 rovs.

Whats your thought on this? Bugged, and i should just stay away from potatoes? Or am i doing something wrong?

I don't have the money for the self propelled potato harvester.

Turn off crop destruction?

I personally never head issue's with potatoes. But I haven't used modded maps yet on FS22.

What happens if you use a sprayer with pesticide instead of a weeder?

Not all narrow tires are safe. In the .xml, the tires have to be listed as "care" tires. That's the key for them to not destroy crops.

Nope. Any tire can be "care" or not depending on how it's coded. If I'm remembering right, so can trailers.

Thankfully, most are properly marked, but you do run into the occasional one that isn't. But you can just change the .xml.

Here's the part in a Xerion 5000's .xml showing the indicated "care tires" setting for the narrow tires:

<wheelConfiguration name="$l10n_configuration_valueWheelNarrow" price="2500" brand="TRELLEBORG" saveId="TRELLEBORG_NARROW">
<wheels baseConfig="TRELLEBORG_DEFAULT">
<wheel filename="$data/shared/wheels/tires/trelleborg/TM600/480_95R50.xml">
<physics restLoad="4.5" yOffset="0.047"/>
<tire isCareWheel="true"/>
</wheel>
<wheel filename="$data/shared/wheels/tires/trelleborg/TM600/480_95R50.xml">
<physics restLoad="4.5" yOffset="0.047"/>
<tire isCareWheel="true"/>
</wheel>
<wheel filename="$data/shared/wheels/tires/trelleborg/TM600/480_95R50.xml">
<physics restLoad="4.1" yOffset="0.047"/>
<tire isCareWheel="true"/>
</wheel>
<wheel filename="$data/shared/wheels/tires/trelleborg/TM600/480_95R50.xml">
<physics restLoad="4.1" yOffset="0.047"/>
<tire isCareWheel="true"/>
</wheel>

Note, "isCareWheel" is indicated as "true". Also to be noted, on some mod vehicles. the front and rear tires may have separate settings.

This is during harvest.

Ah…I guess mod tractors. I will look to see if I can modify my tractors. Not sure how I will do that though.

Did you have your foliage remover on the front or rear of the tractor? I use it on the front. I also like to use the "Grimme Pack" mod . It comes with implements that pull potatoes out of the ground and put them in windrows and a pull behind harvester that collects the potato windrows. There is also the mod "Krukowiak Z437" which collects the potato windrows and I think is better than the windrow harvester that comes with the Grimme pack. It also seems like you get more potatoes when you put them in windrows than you do using a regular potato harvester.

Thats sloppy mod work... making narrow tires and not setting the XML correct... :S
Stenleh44 Aug 1, 2023 @ 10:09pm
So it's been confirmed it was the type of wheels on my tractor. I verified the tractor did not have Care set to true. Tried one of my other tractor with care set to true and didn't destroy one potato.

Not to figure out the best mods for potatoes, because the in game harvestor does one row at a time is just not cutting it.

Thanks Wizard for the answer. Thanks to all the other as well for the replies, suggestions, and mod information .

get the GPS mod that helps you auto steer. Its realistic and allows you to go perfectly straight once you plug the heading into the mod.

Ah you said foilage remover but what you mean is a (haulm) topper.

Note with harvesting that the tires on the pulled harvester is also destroying crops when you drive over them, even after using the topper. Only selfpropelled harvesters don't.

Unrelated to this question but I prefer the pulled harvester, same when doing sugarbeets.

I didn't notice any crop destruction with the harvester. I am doing it in two steps though. First topped the foliage, then im started harvesting.

Next time i will try to do them together.

Thanks all!
