You may have seen terms like "Exclusive Fullscreen" in graphic settings, which allows a program to take complete or exclusive control of your graphics/video hardware. This is essentially the same thing.
The only fix for it is to open up sound settings in the control panel (not "settings"), and un-checking the box allowing this. Note that some software may not work correctly if you do this. The box is labeled something along the lines of "Allow programs to take exclusive control of this device".
Note that you do this at your own risk; I am not responsible for what you do with your computer.
If your headset is a USB headset, it will be acting as a sound device. It could be that the drivers for it are glitchy, or windows isn't passing the game to it or mixing it with everything else correctly. It could also be an "insufficient number of channels" problem, or a channel assignment problem. Your headset may also be incompatible with exclusive mode, or something else is already using the mode, which would cause FS to "rip" control from that program. USB headsets are notorious for these sorts of problems. The fix in this case would be to get a headset that connects via 3.5mm instead of USB, or get a proper set of headphones and a separate mic. Alternatively you could get a physical usb mixer such as one from Alesis or Yamaha, and upgrade to proper studio grade gear. This is costly and not recomended for casual use.
The 3.5mm connections will be labeled with symbols, colors (pink for microphone, green for speakers) or both. They may be located on the rear I/O of your motherboard (aka Mobo), on the front panel of your case, or both. In the case of both, use whichever is convenient, though the one from the Mobo will provide a cleaner signal in most cases. Be cautious of volume; make sure it is turned all the way down in windows and physically if your audio setup has a physical volume adjustment, before making connections and before you put your headphones/headset on. Make sure to raise the volume slowly when you are ready to hear audio.
I hope this helps understand what may be happening. Have fun driving those tractors :D
Wow i could have sworn that was off already but to my surprise it was not
Thank you!
Update
I tested with that off and it still gives the same problem
The thing about the drivers or headset model is I know someone with the same headset that isnt getting this problem in FS22
I tried going into audio troubleshooting and it shows audio services not responding whenever FS22 is launched
Starting FS before Discord, Discord before FS, things like that. Also maybe try checking in Discord settings to see if there are any options for sound involving exclusive mode that might be conflicting with FS, or vice versa.
it could also be the driver. There may be an updated version or perhaps the one you have already got corrupted somehow, or windows update botched it up (happens sometimes).
When in doubt, reinstall drivers/software. If you have a tendency to leave your computer on all the time, your rig might just need a reboot. Computers have a habit of getting confused about things if left on for over a month without rebooting. I leave my computers on 24/7 and a reboot usually fixes any weirdness going on.
Also make sure in the sound settings in the control panel that your headset is set to be the "default" device for sound. Sometimes programs get confused about which device theyre supposed to use. I've had SteamVR forget my settings regarding sound and send audio to my vive headphones, which aren't attached, instead of my mixer. Makes for a confusing 5 minutes lol.
Another thing to try is starting FS as you would normally, getting into your save or server, pressing ESC to bring up the pause menu, alt-tabbing out, and then back in. Sometimes that can fix weirdness like this. Could also be the game running in fullscreen; sometimes programs will sense that something took over the screen and mute themselves as a convenience feature. Alt-tabbing out can sometimes stop the muting.
Otherwise it could be that the game is botched up. Idk. The last couple of updates were full of bugs, so maybe you could try switching to the last stable version (1.7.1.0) in the betas dropdown of the game properties window in steam (right click the game in steam, click properties, betas, scroll through the dropdown until you find it, let the game update and try it after that). That might fix it too.
Hope this helps, if not, I think I may be out of ideas, sadly.
That seemed to fix it for me
That and turning off the exclusive sounds option in windows
I bought a new headset since my old one stopped working
And doing the same thing as last time did not fix it
I checked in event viewer and found AUDIODG.EXE crashes when ever it happens after opening FS22
Some games cant run with high audio settings in windows.
My audio in FS started making insanely loud crackling sounds in the 1.3 or 1.4 patch with the settings i use, but i i used low settings, it worked fine. So ive been playing without sound since then lol.
Im running dolby atmos with it
My old headset was the same just 16 bit instead of 24bit
No other games have this issue and it happens across multiple headsets for me
But yeah, its annoying that having high audio settings will crash games or just make the audio go nuts.
Windows 11 is a SERIOUSLY big a hole when it comes to audio for me. I have a set of Logitech Pro X headphones, a set up logitech bluetooth speakers, and I have the audio driver for my video card installed. Windows 11 will VERY frequently get confused about what device I have active and it will constantly mess with the volume settings if I have Discord running and it has volume attenuation active.
Just something to look at. I haven't had any issues with it figuring what audio device is active lately, but I still have the volume setting issue. I either just don't have discord open, or I go back in and readjust the volumes after I open discord.
