Base: either corn or sorghum
Grains: either wheat or barley
Protein: Either soybeans, canola, or sunflowers
Root crops: Either potatoes or sugar beet
You can either grow the crops yourself and feed portions of the harvest to your pigs, or you buy a bigbag of pig food at the dealership. For the self-sufficient solution which saves you money in the long run, you will have to run your farming operation accordingly.
So you have to have all food portions present to reproduce? I thought as long as you had the base food there they would reproduce, albeit with a penalty. I think I'm just going to buy pig food rather than invest in root crops.
Well it's not like they didn't have ANY food lol
This is actually much harder than cow mixing, and there are no mixing wagons.
Since you don't know until you start filling how much food your pig barn can hold, you have to start with a little Base, then do the sums.... If you put in too much of one type, you've gimped the capacity for others....
This needs to be better explained and simplified. Even if you spend a year growing all the crop types needed, you still have endless food balance issues. Hats off to anyone who doesn't give up and just buy pig food.
There are mods which allow you to place pig food factories, but these use only 1 of the crop variants of each type, and you can bet it's the one you don't have....
A better bet is to use modded production facilities, which produce pig food as a byproduct: this is more realistic and saves you buying it.
