And my biggest money maker is...(silage?)
This play-through I've been going about a year and five months, with seasons on, easy economy. Various crop settings are realistic, like plowing required, etc.

I've grown several different crops, raised all the animals, did a lot of mowing and turned grass into silage, and I've sold stuff at the best times of year. I haven't tried forestry, though.

At this point, in terms of biggest money maker, the clear winner is...silage. Have other players found that silage is hugely profitable?

Yes, almost always. Even on contracts you can make quite a bit. Also I've found that when you have to take contract silage to a BGA, if the BGA is full when you try to sell the first load you'll get "contract complete" immediately AND get all the bales back (though they will be sitting in the hopper out of site - auto load bale trailer is the key here).

Forestry can be very profitable too but is a bit much like hard work even with the best equipment :-)

Yeah, I've had a couple silage contracts. They pay so well that I can lease a big windrower and a good baler (which does the wrapping), and then have bales left over.

the economy is still completely broken. i started on hard and the "only" way to make money is contracts, baling-silage contracts are the best by far. my oil production chain does not earn any money, in fact its losing money even using the cheapest machines and putting a ton of work in. what a beta release.
if i just put down 10 greenhouses instead, id be better off. not really earning a lot, but it wouldnt lose money and cover my loan interest atleast

meanwhile the guys giving bale contracts just want like 2-5 bales delivered, while their field yields 20 so i just sell the rest for my own profit which is completely stupid

I agree the economy is really bad. Another stupid thing is the way you can hold onto milk for a year in order to get the best price.

Yes silage is far and away the best money maker. My first playthrough on Calmsden, I turned every field over to grass in the first year.

Made over 1 million.

Admittedly the baling got a little tedious at the time, before I worked out how to AI bale with Courseplay.

3 harvests a year each pulling in more money than any other crop could....

I wouldn't do it now, since money is only a means to do different things, and there is more fun to be had in the game than just baling.

Oh, and grass is by far the quickest way to get all your fields to PF 100 - can do it in just 3 months.

Yeah - eggs too. They should force refrigeration or it depreciates in value over time (maybe even to 0 value)

Work to $$ ratio is Clothes. 3 sheep barns bring in 1/2 mil/yr.

In regards to heisting, once you make the bales you can cancel the contract and the bales will still remain in your name. I've only done this on a mod map, so I'm not sure if regular maps handle anything differently. But you can turn a decent contract into a ton of money in silage bales.

wish someone would make a mod on the modhub that introduces tax's so you can pay for something instead of just gain cash.

Why not simply reduce profit by lowering contract payouts and harvest per ha?

You can also just edit your saves config file and give yourself as much money as you wish... If your are up for cheating do it straight 🤪🙄

On topic, yes silage is still op. Especially in the beginning when you don't got the money silage bales from grass are the easiest and cheapest way to make money.

I don't do contracts i tend my own fields but since there's nothing to shell money out to its just piling up in the millions, in essence i have so much that i wish i had a means to adequately burn it.
