Modders charging for access to mods... this is unreal
The FS community has been pretty cool when it's come to mods. But FS22 seems to be just modders out to make a buck off the game. Seriously, I just watched a flame rant over in Custom Modding's FB group of another mod group for converting a mod from 19... we're not getting anything good for mods and we have folks like Custom Modding charging for access to a discord as a paywall to their mods. RIP FS!

Modders are not allowed to use mods to make money, If they are doing so, they are violationg Giants software's terms of service agreement. Do not pay for fs mods in any way.
Giants has thier own mod hub for that purpose. If you find anyone tring to profit from modding anything for giants, report them.

Custom Modding currently has 5 mods awaiting approval for the in game hub. I don't see what the problem is.

Go look at their Patreon... for 9.99 you can provide support for them to produce mods, console mods included!

Do not pay for mods in any way. They are not supposed to be making a profit from it.
If they do not offer the mods for free, Do not support them.

Ah yes, giants gets to be the only one to make money on work they are doing. Custom modding is charging people for early access testing and the right to vote on new mods they work on. All the mods end up on mod hub for free. If you downloaded mods for 19 you used their work almost for sure. Also why is it so wrong to support someone doing work? They are not gate keeping the mods behind discord..... like I said everything goes up to mod hub when its done. BTW they were doing the same thing in 19..... This is not new.

Have no issue in them asking for patreons, but charging for mods isn't legal I would suggest for any game. You are technically infringing on their business and could be in some legal troubles.

Modders, especially good ones, deserve rewards. But charging for mods on a game you don't own or haven't financially contributed to the making of, well that is, IMO, wrong and illegal.

But they aren't charging for the mods. The mods are free once they're completed.

They're charging to be part of the development process, and for having some say in what mod gets made next.

I don't think that's all that unreasonable. At the end of the day, to us, the end user, the mods are still free.

They are taking the patreon money as payment to make the mods. It's clear as day on their Patreon what the money is going towards.

If someone wants to be a patreon, no issue with that personally. If someone wants to charge for their time, no problem with that. Personally, I dont pay for mods and I dont do patreon stuff either.

The way I see it, if someone wants something badly, paying someone to do the work is good business and both parties agree. If any modders want me to pay to enter their discord or w/e, then I just wont do it. Again, thats not something I dont think Giants would care about either.

For me, there are plenty of mods out there and loads being added every day to the sites. Eventually, they will prob all be available in game too once they catch up.

My original comment still stands. Though if they are not charging for mods, no harm or foul. If someone wants to pay them for their time for specific mods they would like, thats a deal between two parties.

Ya, to help support their development process, if that's what you're into.

For me, I'll be enjoying their FS22 mods for free, just like I enjoyed their FS19 mods for free.

This is a 'the sky is falling' thread. Nothing of any substance to see here. :steambored::sleep::stop:

They are taking patron money to run a community of people that want to be involved in the process and decisions regarding the mods they are making, or read Dev blogs or just support the work they appreciate. You are not paying for access to the mods, THE MODS ARE GOING UP ON MOD HUB FOR FREE, as soon a giants approves the mods boom you have access and you paid nothing. The same thing happened on FS 19 and you had access to all the mods they made.....

paymods really suck, and its going to permanently ruin modding for everyone within the next few years across the industry.

if your not happy about the price of said mod, giants gives you the tools to make your own mods. Not sure if its actually illegal for a modder to sell their product.
