How do I get rid of bushes? trying to clear out some trees and cant see the trunks because of them

go into landscaping mode and paint dirt or grass on them and they disappear

Yep, painting get's rid of most small ones. If that doesn't work, rent a forestry mulcher.

You can also in landscaping go to the plants side and select any one of them and right click deletes
