In my ideal world, I'd use pedals with the controller, but with my current set, I don't have a way to use them without the wheel also being active.
There's a bit of learning curve to the controller, but the stock keybindings for it encompass almost everything you'd do without mods, using the shoulder buttons as modifiers like shift/alt. Leaving the context help displayed makes it quick to learn.
I enjoy forklifting/front end loading etc. Using a flight stick for those type of controls really add to immersion/fun.
I also run with trackir 5 for camera control and it helps a lot in interior view being able to move to camera in all axis, especially side to side helps with depth perception of your forks etc.
I haven't tried a xbox controller but I imagine it would be an ideal alternative if not going for a wheel setup.
Those wheels and pedals sound cool , but they take a lot of space. My set is stored in the closet.
