Why do I have rocks?
I'm a complete newbie to this series, so sorry if I'm being stupid.

So my fields had a bunch of rocks in them, and I'm told that's a bad thing. So I rented a stone picker and collected them all. I now had a completely rock-free field, which I used to plant wheat. After the harvest, I cultivated the soil, and new rocks started to appear. Since I used only a regular cultivator since the last harvest, I believe they should have been small rocks only. So I planted wheat again, and went over the fields with a roller.

The roller did not remove any of the rocks, and I'm not getting it. If there'd be some large rocks mixed in, then I'd kinda get it, but why did the roller not remove any rocks? Do I just not get how rocks work?

Need a rock picker once you get large rocks roller can only do small unfortunately

Yeah, I understood that much. That's why I used the rock picker the first time around. There were no rocks in my fields afterwards. After the harvest, I cultivated my fields, and then there were rocks again. According to the Academy, a regular cultivator should only uncover small rocks. So I assumed that a roller should have been sufficient. So where am I misunderstanding?

I haven't read the academy. But it seems that shallow cultivators turn up small rocks, plows and regular cultivators turn up larger stones.

Some machines make small stones, some make large, and some make both I think.

Plows make small stones, but their alternatives (like a power harrow) make large stones. Those alternatives have shapes that are easier for the AI to use though.

Personally, I plow, roll, plant/fert, then use digestate to fertilize a second time.

That would make sense, though that would annoyingly mean the academy is wrong (relevant article here)[farming-simulator.com]. It specifically mentions that power harrows uncover no rocks, and regular cultivators small rocks.

Alright, guess I need to choose between dealing with rocks or dealing with grown weeds. I've already bought a weeder, so I guess I'll just make do with endless rocks.

Rocks are endless even in the real world. Farmers have been picking rocks out of their fields for generations. It's just a fact of life and something which GIANTS have implemented into the game play.

I go with the cultivator myself so I can use the weeder only once and the field is clear.
