Rock Pickers cultivating fields
Should rock pickers cultivate fields? It seems like they should only remove rocks and have no effect on field state.
Having them cultivate fields makes them ruin the soil state that I might want, whether it be seedbed or plowed, etc.

Please post the order of operations you performed on a field to make you conclude this.

Yeah, not sure why that happens either but I've noticed it too. I also got extremely tired of having to deal with rocks after every time I cultivate a field. You would think after removing rocks from a field for the 5th time, there wouldn't be anymore in the ground by that point...

I started just turning off the fieldstones after that point. However, I stopped playing for now until they fix a lot of the bigger bugs in the game.

They leave a field texture that looks like cultivating, that does not mean they ARE cultivating... at least that is how i think it works.

If you look at the field info in the map after rockpicking it will say the field is cultivated.

No matter what order I do the rockpicking it always cultivated the field and removes any previous field state whether it be plowed or seedbed.

I haven't experimented too much with stone pickers. Since cultivating can bring up stones, one would use a stone picker after cultivating. The functionality of it assums that your field would have been in that state when you collect the stones. You wouldn't collect stones and then cultivate, as that would possibly bring up more stones.

Also... all the stone pickers are coded that way, here's a snippet:

<soilEffects>
<effectNode effectClass="TypedMotionPathEffect" effectType="CULTIVATOR"

I haven't tested it, but do stones damage cultivators or only seeders/harvesters? I was under the impression the stones damaged all field equipment so after using the plow, I would use stonepicker, then cultivate and have to use stonepicker again. Wasn't until later I found out what OP did that the picker gave the cultivated status.

I like that it leaves the cultivation graphic on the fields, it helps with being as efficient as possible haha.

But yeah if you plow then de-rock fields it changes the state to cultivated. So if you cultivate then de-rock you will not see the field state change.

According to in game help all it does is reduce your yield if you leave them, i am not sure about it damaging your tools.

Not sure if I read it or maybe heard it in a video.... Most likely was in a video and probably just hear-say that isn't in the game. Regardless, with the maintenance costs, I didn't take chances until I dealt with the stones for multiple seasons and finally said "to hell with it" and turned that feature off.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if I was just cultivating. But say I plow and then disc to create seedbed, the only problem is now I have a bunch of rocks to pick up but if I do then the rock picker will change my soil to cultivated instead of staying at seedbed.

There are other ways to create the various field states but it's still annoying. It's be better if they just removed the rocks and didn't effect the field, unless they do that irl.

I'll probably just end up sticking with just discing and ignore plowing and cultivating altogether unless they change the way rock pickers work.

I believe you can also use a roller to push the rocks back into the soil but not sure what state that makes the field. As I use the rock collector as i use the factory mod that turns rocks into free lime haha.

Rollers create seedbed in most cases I think but they only work on the small rocks.

I think roller gives "seedbed" status but I don't remember now...

Been wanting to try some mods but with all the different sites I don't feel like taking that chance on trying to find a good site.

Same. I only use the official modhub now, unless there is a mod I can't find on there. I don't trust any of the other sites due to problems in the past malware.
