Right? Using a VPN for online play smacks of sketchy malpractice(s).

Well, some people like me just leave the vpn on all the time. I have it tunneled to except steam but I don't know if that includes games specifically. *shrug. But then I don't play multiplayer.

VPN seems more like a must theese days if you want to stop every corporation from spying on you. so you just leave vpn on most of the time just because of that. And a game that doesnt allow you to use a vpn during gaming seems more sketchy to me than me trying to keep my privacy.

I'd expect it to be an issue with how the VPN is configured rather than the game itself. It might be blocking ports or something the game needs to work. Reconfigure your VPN or contact support if you're buying access to one.

i don't disagree but there's still cases where it's legit. for example some university dorms offer a single ethernet port. it would make sense to get a wifi router and set it up with a VPN so turning it off might not be simple.

Tell that to people living in totalitarian countries, utilizing public WiFi, dodging external controlling forces (schools/universities/etc), or even people who run an always-active VPN.

And our "unknown" Steam Level 0 anonymus OP is the white herald, fighting for the underdogs in totalitarian countries, I get it :steambored:

Anyone whose profile is set to private is shown that way.

Exactly, it shows what it is: An anonymus statement of someone who does not want his eventual experience disclosed, so it can't be taken into account and is rated zero. Exactly how I characterised it.

i always had the nickname unknown or scorpixx and only my friends can see my profile... whats wrong with that? and VPN is a secure way to be online these days... i am so sorry to inform you that streamers also use VPN .. and i am so sorry to inform you that every game works with VPN online except this game ..

Yeah as a Streamer, I use a VPN as it seems to prevent my ISP from "Traffic Managing" or Thottling my Upload Speed when I'm streaming or uploading video content. It's really annoying that to play on my own dedicated server, I need to remember to turn off the VPN and then close and relaunch my recording/streaming application to then be able to launch the game and join my own server and be able to play multiplayer.

While this does stink for the legit players, you can thank the few that ruin it for the many here. A lot of the initial MP issues were from players who went and got cracked/bad versions of the game and then proceeded to connect to or host multiplayer sessions with legitimate game owners. When legit owners tried to connect or play with non-legit owners, it was causing issues and crashes for the legit folks.

If they allowed the VPN to be enabled, they would have a lot harder of a time controlling only legit owners being able to MP.

I agree it stinks. But it stinks because of crappy players that ruin stuff for the rest of us.
