I wonder what happens if you block their ad server. Does the signs end up erroring?
EDIT: When i checked it is a FrizzySpizz ad.
Granted, it'd be nice if it were an ad local to the map, but then again, it wouldn't make sense to advertise something American to a Dutch person.
I think there's some default fictional ads that will be shown then. I haven't seen any real ads yet (I'm in Sweden). All I see are fictional ads.
I blocked the server and then it serves the default in game ads, which is fine. But I don't like the whole idea of getting ads shoved in my face in a game I already paid for.
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: ads-fs22.giants-software.com
Address: 157.90.93.189
netstat -nao | find/i "157.90.93.189"
TCP 192.168.0.10:52091 157.90.93.189:443 CLOSE_WAIT 8308
This. And a surprising amount of people, I believe, WOULD opt in. I play a lot of Euro/American Trucking Simulator and have mods to change the fake ads into real ads. Would be nice if I could just opt in and see real ads in both of these games. But it should be opt in, not opt out. I'd do it for free, but they'd probably get better numbers if they gave an incentive to the player.
Personally it doesn't really affect me because I have an unlimited inet package, but thats not the case for everyone. What if you have a metered connection? You wake up one morning to find that you used up your bandwith and have no clue as to where its going just to find out a game used it up because its serving UNDISCLOSED ads to you? Yes, its not alot of bandwith, but it is still using it.
I really wish Giants would have been open and honest about this "feature" and maybe even offer an alternative, like full price for ad-free and something like 5% discount for ad-supported version.
Thank you very much for finding this Speedbrake22. Time to block that IP address and now my faith, and more-so my trust in Giants, took a MASSIVE hit.....
Wasn't the first who spotted it, found out about it on https://www.reddit.com/r/farmingsimulator/comments/r1r35i/fs22_has_active_adds/ and tested it and saw it my game as well.
Some people will like it by calling it immersion. I think I'll call it deception.
