The "Needs Rolling" shown in the map screen is a Soil State that is only removed if you use a Regular Roller immediately after seeding a field. This is not to be confused with the Grassland Care Rollers which purpose is to provide a fertiliser state to mown grass fields and also transition grass fields from their 'Harvested' or mowed state back to 'Growing'.

If your field says it needs Rolling only way to fix that that is to plough/cultivate it, re-seed it and then do the normal rolling straight after seeding before any grass begins to grow.

Found this after search, I *think* it answers what I was looking for, just want to confirm. In my case, I'm getting the "Needs Rolling" state with regular crop fields, not grass. Stones turned off, but recognize that this is a separate item. I did procure and use a Roller (regular, not grass), but not clearing the state.

I'm guessing that I need to roll immediately after sowing, same day, but before doing anything else to the field (i.e., fertilizing)? IIRC, I did roll same day, but might've done it after fertilizer. Or do I need to completely re-plow now (already harvested one crop prior)?

Field data shows +98% yield from the fertilizing, so I know it's not really that big a deal to eke out that 2% extra from rolling. But the "Needs Rolling" message is irking me, lol.

Yeah, you'll need to cultivate and re-seed if you want to roll it to get rid of that unrolled status. Kind of annoying, and I haven't bothered.

Oh, I wasn't going to rip up a crop for it, just wanted to get it right on the next cycle.

Which...after harvest I was able to clear the "Needs Rolling" status. Turns out I needed to roll after cultivation but *before* seeding, not after. I assume I will still have to roll again after seeding, as described ingame, for the yield bonus. But - undocumented as far as I can tell - pre-seed rolling was needed for clearing the state.

Most things in FS22 make sense, straightforward. This rolling thing, however, is an exception...as FS goes, it's pretty murky.

Grass rolling is different than any other, after you mow the field, you can use a special grass roller located in grass management I think its called in the shop, a regular roller won't work for grass. All rolling grass does is give you a fertilization boost to the next (dark blue) state so when the grass grows back it's 100% fertilized. The "Needs Rolling" overlay with the light blue color won't go away unless you follow the same steps of any normal field. If you expanded a grass field with your plow let's say (created new field to plant on), you will see the "needs rolling" light blue overlay in that area just as you'll see the "needs Lime" overlay...same as creating/expanding any new field. Lime it, remove rocks if desired, plant grass seed, roll (with regular roller), fertilize, then it will become part of the larger field that already existed. Took me a while to figure that one out too.
