Wheel Users…
I’ve been sim racing for 20 years, currently have a CSL elite and thinking about modifying my rig to use it for FS.
I probably have 1000 hours in FS19/22 and have only used a PS4 controller.
What’s held me back is button mapping might have to get another button box…
Does a wheel really improve the experience for you?

Yes, absolutely! I play with Logitech G29 Wheel and a Sidepanel I can really recommend it!

I tried at the start using a wheel but changed back to my controller for ease of use with implements and front end loaders.

Potti74 do you have the fs button box with the joystick or something else? Wondering if there are other options for this

I have a joystick and throttle for flight sim which I was going to try to use with my wheel for farming sim but haven’t got around to button mapping it all yet, so still using a controller

Yes, it's the Sidepanel with about 30 Buttons and the Joystick in the middle. All is free configurable. Especially the Joystick is very helpful with Forklifters, Wheelloader or Excavator etc.

I also have a Flight Yoke and a Joystick for X-Plane 11 Flightsimulator, but that's not really good for playing FarmSim!

I can't imagine playing any kind of Driving Simulation without a Driving Wheel and Pedals! It's a much more realistic feeling at all! For the Farming Sim I also have a Steering Knob on my Wheel... :-D

Nice I would want the steering knob on my wheel to use for fs as you need to make those turns quick!! I always wanted the button box and wheel, now that I have a thrustmaster ts300 wheel and pedals maybe I’ll look at that button box now as a stand alone. I really want to be able to use my wheel for fs but the front end loaders were an issue with just a wheel.

You won't regret to buy the Side Panel! Take a look at eBay. There I found mine.

Don’t expect force feed back, resistance or centering in the wheel whatsoever. From what i understand the only wheel that gets any of those features is the Logitech.

My THrustmaster wheel has never had any force feed back since release of FS22. It was hit or miss in FS 19.

Maybe i have something wrong but i have not received any suggestions that resolved those issues for me. Even Giants told me “it may have been fixed in latest patch”. It wasn’t.

I've also got a G29, then a logitech extreme 3d joystick. I just deleted all the keybinds and did just the few I wanted. For now anyways. Manual is interesting and deffinetly better with the wheel and clutch, but it's still a pretty crappy slushbox experience. Like 90's racing games in arcades were better.

I set the steering speed to max as I steer really fast. The vehicles don't quite keep up. But 100% was junk. It's 900 deg. It seems that my wheel will match whatever I'm driving and I think that's cool.

The brake pedal is super stiff and sucks. If you stall your brakes don't work.
Controller is better then KB + M and wheel is better than controller. I'm now using my G29 + Extreme 3D + KB + M.

But this setup has made frontloader tasks way way way better.

Too bad I can't get my mirrors to work. To bad pallets are broken and the majority of stuff related to front loading is complete garbage still. Using a wheel loader with like a 12ft fork to carry 8 big bags at a time.

I'm probably going to get burnt out of this game soon. Since nothing has really improved since 2011. So it's not really worth investing more real $$$.

I use a thrustmaster T300, if you go into the thrustmaster control panel in the gains settings you can choose to set the forces by the game or the wheel, select by the wheel and it should work, I have wheel weight and spring tension, my wheel self centres, not sure about thinggs like round conditions like bumps or accidents, next time I am in game I will test for those forces, you can set the strengths to your own comfort level, this has worked for me in FS-17-19 and 22.
I have also done some experimenting with different controllers (ie: flight throttles, joysticks, home made controllers), you can use quite an assortment of controllers, the only limitation I have found is you can only use up to 8 devices ( 10 including mouse and keyboard ) at the same time

I use the T300 as well along with a few other controllers, I used to have the FS side panel but switched it out for something else, it all depends on personal preference, I don't currently have a knob on the wheel but have considered it, manage to steer ok so far without it though

The wheel absolutely makes it better, I use a wheel along with a few other controllers for loaders and implements and a little added realizm

I believe i have tried this, but i will check again. I guess that setting would mess things up for other games, so i would have to remember to reset that setting.

I don’t care about force feedback on terrain bumps, etc. As long as i can get some feel to the wheel. Without any tensions…then wheel is almost useless.

Thank for the suggestion….greatly appreciated and I will definitely give it a try now. I hope it works.

Thanks so much….it worked. So much better now. I’ll just have to figure out the best setting and remember to switch that option off when playing other games.’
Thanks again.
