Do purchased grass fields grow?
I am on Elm Creek and saved up to purchase the small grass fields in the northeast corner of the map. I bought them around September after I did contracts to harvest them. I plowed out the gravel drives between the fields and planted them with grass so I would have one seamless field for sheep and cow feed.

It is now May and the sections I plowed and planted have grown twice. However, the fields have not grown at all, they are still the initial mowed stage.

Do I need to replant the grass fields I purchased or just wait longer? I would expect everything to grow at the same time, but maybe not. I was hoping to get two grass harvests a year, but maybe that's not possible.

I thought grass didn't needed to be replanted.
I had a similar question to yours on the map Erlengrat. If i cut the grass from those lands that aren't "fields" will the grass regrow?

Hopefully some people with better knowledge can help us both lol

Plough it all and reseed it?

On Elmcreek, if you mow grass that is not on a field, it will regrow. I use the riding mower to mow the edges of the property to feed my sheep. To the OP, stand in the field and see what it says. You may have to plant grass in them. Once planted, you don't have to plant again. Grass takes 2 months to get to harvest, and you should get 4-5 harvests per year. I mow in Mar, May, Jul, Sep, Nov every year.

Once you plant grass it will regrow automatically. It will also retain 1 fertilzer stage.

I do a lot of grass work….I will mow, then mulch, and then fertilize onky to do it all over again month after month.

I never bought a field that was grass. So I don’t know how that normally works. I would think it works the same way.

Grass fields are supposed to grow whether you plant them yourself or purchase them already planted. Here is the fruitType entry for grass :
<fruitType name="grass" shownOnMap="true" useForFieldJob="false">
<general startStateChannel="0" numStateChannels="4" />
<cultivation needsSeeding="false" allowsSeeding="true" directionSnapAngle="0" alignsToSun="false" seedUsagePerSqm="0.03" plantsWeed="false"/>
<harvest minHarvestingGrowthState="3" maxHarvestingGrowthState="4" cutState="5" allowsPartialGrowthState="true" literPerSqm="3.28" />
<harvestGroundTypeChange groundType="GRASS_CUT" />
<growth witheredState="4" numGrowthStates="4" growthStateTime="36000000" resetsSpray="true" growthRequiresLime="false" regrows="true" firstRegrowthState="2" />
<growthGroundTypeChange state="2" groundType="GRASS" groundTypeMask="GRASS GRASS_CUT SOWN DIRECT_SOWN ROLLER_LINES" />
<windrow name="grass_windrow" litersPerSqm="4.37" />
<options lowSoilDensityRequired="false" increasesSoilDensity="false" consumesLime="false" startSprayState="1" />
<cropCare maxWeederState="0" maxWeederHoeState="0" />
<mapColors default="0.0423 0.1221 0.0252 1" colorBlind="1.0000 0.9473 0.0369 1"/>
<destruction canBeDestroyed="true" />
<mulcher state="1" hasChopperGroundLayer="false"/>
</fruitType>
As you can see the "needsSeeding is "false" and regrows is "true".

It looks like I'll need to replant them. I guess buying the fields with grass doesn't get you very far ahead.

Try reseeding it once. Should be enough! Good luck :)

Mulch? Is it the same as the grass roller or something different?
One thing I found out about forage harvesters with mowing headers. They do not work on meadow grass, only field grass. When I'm mowing for silage bunkers & summer sheep fodder rather than hay, it's still probably an improvement. I can tow a big semi trailer on a bogie behind the harvester, letting me mow and gather grass in one operation. Very handy since I'm growing grass in my grain fields mainly as a cover crop and fertilizer.

Grass roller will give you one stage of fertilizer. Rolling takes longer than fertilizing, but doesn’t cost you anything if you have the roller already.

Mulching give you another extra 2.5% on your yield. Not a bunch, but if I’m not getting 100% yield my OCD kicks in and ruins my day! You can use the mulcher you use for regular crops.
