Cannot Plant Trees

Cleared some property and bought a tree planting machine. It only holds a single pallet of 20 trees. Anyway, whenever I tried to engage the machine, a blinking line of text appears on the scree, saying, There are too many trees. Cut some down first. There are no trees nearby, and the field looks like the moon...totally devoid of plant life.

Even if I hire a driver, the same message appears.

Why do I need a mod to plant trees? I can buy the land and equipment but I can't plant a single tree without a mod? Makes no sense.

I have the same problem, even though I bought a hilly plot of land, where I cut down all the trees and processed them into wood.
When I try to plant on a flat plot, it still gives me the same message, even though I cut down approximately 200 trees on the purchased plot.

IIRC, there are two tree objects: those you can plant and then harvest and those in the map that are simple objects. It's been a while, so one of the other players can better explain it than I can.

I just bought a piece of land that only had trees that could be harvested (spruce). I took the logs to a warehouse and am gradually filling the factory with pallets. I even sold a little to the next town by train. But it won't let me plant new spruce trees.

There is a limit on Trees PER MAP.
The ownership doesn't matter.

in the mountain logging map, if you do tree transport missions the trees are not deleted from vehicles.xml
so for 1 mission you would have to cut 15 trees to balance it out.
delete the transport mission trees from vehicles.xml, but backup first

Steam messes up links. Don't click the link. Copy and paste it into your browser and don't copy it with Steam's "Copy Link Address" but rather drag your mouse over the link and then copy as normal in Windows and paste into your browser.
