WHO THE HELL IS DRAGON LORD PLACIDUSAX!?
I'm on NG+ and I was roaming around Altus Plateau ready to fast travel to Castle Sol in Mountain of the Giants when I had a thought to visit the round table first before doing so. Then as I was scrolling through my list of grace sites I came across one that I don't remember unlocking from Farum Azula because I haven't kindled the flames at the forge yet in my second run. So being the curious one that I am I decided to fast travel there to see what's up. Little did I realise I was being put smack dab in the middle of an IMMEDIATE BOSS FIGHT against what is supposedly the "Lord of all Dragons". No warning, no cutscene, just straight up get your s**** together and fight. I quickly summoned my mimic tear to help me in the fight and got him first try. But I never seen this boss ever on my first run.

.... Upon writing this I'm just now realising that I remember seeing a dragon vanish in one of the areas in Farum Azula so that must have been Placidusax. Did I encounter some sort of glitch or "wrong warp" on my second run? because I don't remember taking any steps to reach this boss on my first run. Now all of a sudden the grace site appears on my second ...

a chill dude
he is dragonlord the lord of dragons
the only pokemon who can teach you hyperbeam
That's hilarious - that's how I engaged him too. There is actually a "proper" way to stumble into his boss fight, but it turned out to be too sneaky and a lot of people miss it, so they made this failsafe with a randomly unlocked site of grace.
Reason being: the guy gatekeeps the only way to prevent the worst ending in the game, and the only ending you can potentially lock yourself into, overriding all other options.

The lore is that he's the lord of dragons, capable of manipulating time itself. You do NOT meet him anywhere else before this fight. All other dragons have different names, I think.

BTW you miss out on a very cool cutscene if this is how you discovered him.

1. How can you fast travel to Farum Azula without burning the tree? Regardless of NG
2. How can you fast travel to a grace that is inside a 'living' boss arena?

Might be wrong, but maybe you encountered a hacker in some coop session?
His name is John Dragon, King of Drakes, and he has never know da feet.

No no, this is unironically how it works. I have no idea for the trigger though. I noticed mine just before manhandling Godfrey.
Something something Placidusax was a big boy god dragon pre-erdtree. He fought the traitorous BAAAAAAAAAAYLE and lost a few heads.

The DLC dragon priestess and lore in items expound a little more.

You noticed a grace in an area you didn't previously visit in the current ng?
Maybe a glitch? Never happened to me :/ (approx 120 NG in total) ... I feel left out :/

Yeah, it was my first blind playthrough. I was near the very end and was scanning the map for anything that I had missed or forgot to re-explore. As far as I knew - I licked Farum Azula clean. And then I accidentally noticed a sus site of grace in dead middle of the storm, and was like "Dafaq is this?"
So of course I immediately teleported to it, and I am IMMEDIATELY greeted by very angry Placidusax who immediately goes on the offensive - no cutscene, no nothing.
It was very surreal. Like I found an easter egg or something.

Think that's a bug they wound up patching. Saw a few instances of people mentioning it when I garfled.

It's definitely a glitch. It happened to me once before on my Xbox where I could fast travel to Placy even though he was still alive (and I don't think I'd even fought him yet.)

I wonder if anyone has found out why this happens.

I thought the people who had this happen to them were always is some sort of cooperation or invasion.
I'd love for it to happen to me :S

I just see people guessing it's because of some patches that opened a new bug.

It's been patched since. Haven't heard of it happening for 2 years or so.
