Thanks for this thread my friend. Have a good <Whatever> playing Elden RIng.
why so offended, friend?
im not saying that everyone is toxic, im just saying that ive seen a long of toxicity and just wanna know some people's theories on why some people are toxic.
That said, "git gud" isn't always toxic trolling. It's literally what the game wants you to do, and just by playing through the game you will experience an exponential growth in skill. Sometimes the right answer is to just keep practicing, learn the attack patterns, and get dodge timings down.
Many games have fanboys that will shut down any valid criticism/opinions and many baiters are just intentionally trying to trigger those fanbases as well pretty often, it is what it is.
what does this being my first post have to do with anything?
True, but i see a lot more players just waving off any criticism towards souls borne games than any other game, or i might just be tripping.
There is a good amount of forum contributors who also interact with each other in-game via discords, co-op PVE/PVP action or just friends after like two years posting here. Not every other popular game has that. This is one of the reasons why if you pay some attention you will notice things are way better here than BG3 forums or other popular games.
theres a term in theatre when you purposefully ignore plot holes and issues with stories in order to fully enjoy the play. i cant think of the word. maybe they're really pushing mind over matter
I wouldnt say this particular forum has been specifically better than others. more on the worse side, with way more censorship.
There are lots of people offering help every single day with map clears or bosses, lots of people giving items for free when someone in need or giving advice on builds.
Most players don't spend time on the forums they just use the effigy for coop.
It is not at all ''almost everyone'', the vast majority are friendly and when someone says ''git gud'' it is a meme, if you don't get it then you haven't been around much.
A lot of it comes down to the fact that what some folks want to call "legitimate criticism" is just deliberately provocative ♥♥♥♥-talk, and there's only so much of that a community will tolerate before it bites back. At launch and at more or less every sale point (and without doubt from the official announcement of a release date for the expansion to a few weeks after it drops), we've had multiple trolls, provocateurs, and folks just being jerks in thread after thread styled as "i'M jUsT aSkInG kWeScHuNs," and that frequency has bred something of a knee-jerk reaction that means otherwise innocent questions get got in the crossfire.
It's also worth paying attention to how criticism is delivered; tone and word choice matter in how a message is received, and while there are definitely things about ER that can be criticized, there's a world of difference between "I don't really appreciate this aspect of the game" and "this is the stupidest design choice ever; why would anyone ever play this?"
Even your OP here runs afoul of this. Rolling into a dedicated community's board and posing a question that can easily be read as "why are you guys such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" is not going to engender a positive response from most people; this is *basic* social-emotional intelligence stuff. I mean, you wouldn't walk into an OSU bar wearing Michigan gear and say, "Ey, why you Buckeyes so terrible" unless you really wanted to lose teeth.
It means you never interacted with anyone from the community prior to this thread?
