I need 800k+ runes to level up, i played all souls, and man you would have a heart attack knowing how much runes i lose in total. :D
Take the souls games like a zen training, the game will spit in your face, troll you and piss on you. But you got to stay calm =)
Surely others have complained, or feel the same way? Dark Souls just did away with the whole 'XP' system, on which RPG's used to run/still do?
I'm not a rage-quitter, either. When I play competitive games, I can take being beaten by a team or opponent for hours.. because nothing is lost, and experience is gained. But this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rune system..
we all have been to the place of "oh noooo my 12000 runes" to "oh no my 50000 runes" to "f****ck my 340000runes omg"
:D have fun bro!
I don't have the Twiggy Cracked Tear.. and I only have 3 Sacrificial Twigs. I haven't used any of them because given how much I die, 3 would be gone in an hour or so. Unless I can craft Sacrificial Twigs somewhere or at some point, then I don't see how the game has given me the tools to recover my runes, of which I've lost thousands and thousands -_-
F*******ck.
Bruce: 'Why?'
Doctor: 'How can you move faster then possible, fight longer then possible, without the most powerful impulse of the spirit? The fear of death.'
Bruce:'I do fear death. I fear dying in here while my city burns. And there's no one there to save it.'
Doctor: 'Then make the climb.'
Bruce: 'How?'
Doctor: 'As the child did - without the rope. Then fear will find you again.”

it's not the same but it is fear of losing those damned runes that makes this game fun.I don't think without having something to lose you will even enjoy the game or even try that hard or think carefully on how to approach a boss or a enemy.
50% return... I'll take a look at all the infinite buyables and see if there's anything higher.
1. Golden runes act as a store of wealth, so use them only when you need them (preferably to level up). They're more plentiful than you think if you stockpile them. In many corners of the game, there are sets of small coffins that have lots of golden runes. Some are on the map, some aren't.
2. Most of the time it's decently easy to tell when you're coming up on a boss. If you're not feeling confident, don't fight one with a large store of runes. You'll have to go back in to get them should you die. And just generally don't go in dangerous places with a lot of runes. That's a good rule of thumb.
3. There ARE ways to mitigate rune loss. Sacrificial Twigs can be equipped as talismans, and are lost in place of your runes when you die. Naturally, however, they aren't very common. Additionally, the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot consumable will give you an temporary increase in runes gained from enemies. They're not super hard to craft.
4. Just accept that sometimes you're gonna lose runes. It really sucks, trust me, I've been in your exact position. It took me forever to get used to it when I first starting playing souls games. And even now, sometimes I lose tons of runes. You've just gotta pick yourself back up. Step back and take a break if you really need it. No shame in that.
Hope you manage to have fun with the game, but you should know that this mechanic probably isn't going anywhere. It's been around for over a decade.
"Runes" is not a probllem in this game and if you are losing runes when you had enough to lvl up that is a problem of management of your runes.
