Hot Take DLC Weapons Are Better Then Core Game Weapons
While this isn't universally true what is true however is that the tech available to these new weapons is universally powerful either for the dlc pve content speed run community or the pvp community.

To say anything otherwise is to be closed minded and not realize the game has changed a lot post dlc.

Or to not know how to use your keyboard to Google things and live in your own echo chamber.

The pvp is very poorly balanced in my opinion. I had a much better time with the dk3 and dk2 pacts. I recently purchased the game and I think it's wonderful, but the pvp just doesn't work, too many spells, too much autoL2 build and what's much worse, too many people cheating to win something that has no prizes or classification.

Quickly became one of my favorite weapon types
it has 14 str requirement and 18 dex. Not a true strength weapon.
I mean a true str weapon like giant crusher and greatsword or great mace.
I think you are confused about what a true strength weapon is.

It isn't the base stat requirements, usually of which are extremely meager investment to wield like 18 dex. A weapon is judged as Str, Dex, Quality based on its overall scaling potential.

The Great Katana they mentioned gets over 700 AR with a Heavy Str build due to its high base AR and B rank scaling. It also has bleed which is a nice bonus.

In fact, the DLC features a large number of weapons that also have A & B scaling in Str category either by default or after made Heavy (or even Quality for some).

Go to this list and sort by Str. Notice under the weapon name the SOTE image icon to see which ones easily.

This isn't hot take. They have always been better. DS2 gave you FUGS and Alonnes sword. DS3 gave you Gaels and RKPGs. They've always been better.

Nothing the man you are quoting said was incorrect the base great katana is a great weapon.

Even though it doesn't have S strength scaling or anything.

All the great katanas are amazing.

You didn't read my post correctly, or even the post I quoted. You are confused with the post THEY were responding to.

They stated the Great Katana was NOT a good true Strength weapon when someone ELSE recommended. I pointed out that they were wrong and that it IS a great strength weapon and why, which you are agreeing with me but think you aren't because you didn't read properly (and that is putting it nicely considering..., if you want a hot take).

How good a weapon is depends on whether you can land your attack successfully, not its stat or the damage of its Ash of War. I have clear the entire DLC with the weapon from the base game. For mobs I mostly use Sacred Relic as you can hit many of them from far. For the final boss, the meta is Fingerprint shield and bloody helice. Those are all base game weapon. Even for those one shoot build, majority of the gear are from base game include Commander Standard, Sepuku, Whitemask helm and many more. The most useful weapon in DLC is the smithscript shield which I can use it to shoot down the annoying bird from far.

Sure fingerprint shield is good, I love it paired with a nice frostbite infused anspir rapier so you have a boss that is massively slowed (took a chunk of upfront dmg) and will take steady dmg the rest of the fight.

But I also just linked someone doing 18k dmg with one malady combo.

Or a guy Sekiro deflecting rockblaster with the guard counter mace.

It's called tech as in options, just like a shield is an option.

Or every great katana is one of the best options.

Like I can literally out dps blasphemous blade with a fire perfume because I understand the tech, and that's all it takes 50 milliseconds of your time to go 1 step further then the last guy.

That’s DLC weapons in general for any game. The weapons are always better if not way more OP than base game to incentivize players to buy the DLC.

How is this a hot take when there's like two or three posts a day with people complaining that DLC weapons are too strong.
hemorrhage911 Jul 17, 2024 @ 12:08am
The DLC weapons are either completely busted or absolute garbage. There is nothing in between.

Fromsoftware has a lot of work to do on them. Some of them feel like they are weapons that came from a mod. That's how ridiculous they are.

Hot Take? More like hot garbage, just like this dlc.
mic01851165 Jul 17, 2024 @ 12:18am
Sure is hot-take though.
There are a few good ones yeah , but 80% falls into meh category.
Most boss weapons are overly fancy with animation way too long/ over-the-top it ruins its practical use purpose.

For speedrunning it is important how fast you can get the weapon while also being strong. Nothing beats starting with the Katana or getting bloodhounds fang.
