The crossbow can instantly inflict sleep, and then the needle can pop sleep for massive dmg potentially killing you.
Anyone who would suggest that these things aren't good must not be playing the same game as everyone else.
Anyway to raise your resistances in a significant way you may want to try some crafting (the consumables are much stronger than talismans). Other than that just... don't get hit?
Hardswap your talismans at the start, or just keep both the ailment talisman and the best focus boosting talisman always equipped. And armor with good focus levels. Focus affects your resistance to sleep and madness.
Jump when they shoot. If sleep procs while you're in the air, you just fall and get back up, rather than being stuck in the sleep animation.
Use a weapon that can stagger them and stay aggressive. Punish any attempts to reload the crossbow.
When you kill them, teabag. This is one of the few cases where a teabag is the honorable course of action.
Block them on steam after the match.
Hahahaha ok take my points
