Well they cost no fp, you have to commit to a roll, and you have no armor because again poise is pointless and light roll spam bait is all that matters.

Swift shard is actually hilariously broken in arena rn, get ritual sword and mana regen talisman, light roll and you won't even need to drink blue flask. This is so braindead and can go for ages I actually find it funny. Still, remember that distance closing ashes exist, even on big weapons. Technically you can replicate similar results with a status short bow.

It is possible to punish, but you need to leave the trading mindset because again you can't out trade a projectile coming out of a sprint a roll or a jump.
