Sorc respec into heavy melee class?
Hi! I have started my journey with meteorite rock slinger machine gun astrologist class because I love rp. But now, I would lile to switch to heavy melee knight build without switching characters. Could I just respec at Renalla or are starting astrologist stats suck for heavy knight build? I really don’t want to explore every piece of map again. I d rather continue story where I left.

Yeah I mean but I cant respec all stats, only those I invested, yeah?👍

Starting stats are inconsequential if you just want to respec into different style. You may not even let go of all the Intelligence, there are some really fun weapons for STR/INT hybrid that still focus on Strength, like Fallingstar Beast Jaw or Ruins Greatsword

Thank you, so I can just respec without fears that my knight will be squishy because of starting stats? I can’t afford dlc if it matters.

I want to aim medieval knight with visor up, flail and shield 🛡️ plus alt weapon being either lance or spear

DLC doesn't matter, only thing that influences your squishyness is how much Vigor you'll give him, and be warned flails are famous for not being the best weapon type. Also with the kind of weapon types you list, you'll probably want more DEX than STR. Highly recommend Bolt of Gransax spear

I mean, Astrologer can't go lower than 16 INT and 15 MND, that's 10-15 levels wasted right there, if you respec to pure melee. But apart from this, nothing's stopping you. You'll be very suboptimal in multiplayer, but if you don't care, then it doesn't matter.

There is no "starting stats"

A Vagabond with 60 Vigor and an Astrologist with 60 Vigor have the same amount of health

This is the answer you're looking for.

if you respec an astrologer you lose like 10 levels compared to a melee starting class.
not the end of the world.

Fallingstar Beast Jaw is still incredible even after the nerf.
I was outright op before nerf but now fully upgraded it still does around 1,400 damage per l2 and you can chain 3 of them most of the time which is 4200 damage in a very short time and from range !

before nerf it woild also do 33 poise damage per l2 and now it does 7 which is basically nothing.

But its still one of the best weapons for dealing a lot of damage from a save range

Yes but if you wanna go 60 vigor 60 strenght a vagabond is gonna reach it at level 100 and an astrologer is gonna reach it at lvl 109, meaning that for the same build the astrologer is lagging behind 9 levels, without even accounting for endurance, which you are going to need for armor and str weapons.

Nothing prevents you from using melee weapons on an INT build. You can go like 16 STR, 80 INT and use a Magic Claymore with Lion's Claw and heavy armor. And you can off-hand a Regal Scepter for pew-pew.

If you want to use a shield, then a Magic Clayman's Harpoon + Brass Shield is another option. Cast Scholar's Shield to improve blocking.

I did a playthrough with this build

was pretty op to be honest.
Id say for my taste even a bit too easy.

but could be a good option for Mommy Deer
only problem is getting the weapon which may require like 1-2h of farming >-<
but i used cheat engine to get it from start.

As others have stated, when you respec it'll start you with base stats and starting level for the class you initially chose (you can see this in status menu anywhere).

From there, it'll make you reallocate rune level points to restore your level to what you are at the time of respec.

A problem you may encounter, without of course moving to next new game cycle, is exhaustion of somber/normal ancient dragon smithing stones.

There's only so many of them, and if you've used them on other equipments, you may find yourself short.

I've a rule in newer characters, zero spend of these until through the DLC.

On a pure caster, I respec'd melee str heavy, grabbed a haligtree shield, and blood infused (with no arcane invest) an antspur rapier (WA blood tax).

It was like night and day on rhadan2.

Then spec back. In an enormous contrast, a greatshield and thrusting weapon with status set makes end boss much easier.
