Why is there a hitbox trailing behind Gaius?

It doesn't matter if you roll or guard you will get hit by the charge, sometimes twice? If he decides to spam charges it's over.

The Gaius double tap "just for hitting a pixel" hit box is the stupidest thing in the DLC.

I beat him today naked with no summon, buffs or ash of wars. What worked for me was dodging to the left side of him. The charge hit me maybe 2 times out of 10 and It was my fault, so it worked pretty well for me.

Roll forward and to the right as the snoot would hit you= not the tusks

Its part of his gravitational technique, his special move passed down from the alabaster lord, BIG hitbox.

I can to dodge the charge somewhat reliably by rolling straight forward just as the snout is about to hit me. You have to press dodge a bit before that since it's on release, so the timing is a bit weird.
In my first attempt, I equipped my backhand blade with raptor's mist and it worked like a charm. Don't try to attack when you pull off the raptor dodge thoug, or you will get hit.
Since Gaius mostly charges from a distance, I suggest equipping a dagger with raptor's mist, use it to dodge the charge, then change back to your weapon of choice.

so you don't roll into him and trivialize the fight. just literally dodge perpendicular to him like you're a bullfighter and he's a charging bull. also works for Fallingstar Beast, Scadutree Avatar, and Ulcerated Tree spirits to name a few

I agree..no reason to make dodging so strict...once you have the solution you should have a reasonable amount of room to dodge...

his boar's tusks, and each rear hoof has damage hit box. so you can be hit by any or all of those 3. you can i-frame roll through them all with a well timed roll diagonally to the side
