Just finding the maps in DLC

I have spent nearly 10 hours tooling around in the beautiful green Rauh Ancient Ruins, I have slain two bosses, the death blight lion, and the centipede scorpion woman, I have found many random things, I don't have any freaking ideas where I'm going, ever, because I cannot find the way to the map. It's just a giant green maze of underground grottos and spirit springs and elevators and encounter after encounter after encounter with no graces in sight. I am of the impression that there are only five graces in the entire region - I found a miquela cross, with no grace, in the middle. I don't know where I've been, I don't know where I'm going, I routinely set out from Ancient Ruins West with empty pockets and find my way to Church of the Bud with 300k in my pockets.
I really, really, really just want to reach the map.

The greatest failing of Fromsoft is that they made exploration of this DLC such a blind grope for any landmarks or locations. There's plenty of scenic vistas, but with such insanely sharp elevation changes, often 4x fatal falling distance, it becomes impossible to find routes or paths to anything you want to locate. Instead you, by blind luck, find your way to something entirely unrelated to your original search.
I've not looked at any guides since the DLC launched, but after a full day of trying and failing to find what should be a [expliitive] straight line - I'm folding.

OMG how I understand you... unfortunately I had to check a guide to find that map piece. When I arrived at the second dancing lion, it was devastating to see there was no way to get to the map piece from there. Sadly, I had overlooked an area. If you want help with the least amount of spoils I can help you
