LINUX/STEAMDECK ONLINE PLAY FIX

if you're playing elden ring on steam deck or linux and the DLC update broke your online, here's the fix:

steam deck: boot into desktop mode and open dolphin file explorer
other linux: open your file explorer
navigate to wherever the elden ring /Game folder is, by default it's
Home/.local/Steam/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/Game
for me, all my games are on a second ssd, so it was
/mnt/SSD2/Steam Library/steamapps/common/ELDEN RING/Game
in the Game folder, create an empty file named DLC.bdt
(on steam deck just click the menu at the top and click "create new file", on some linux distros you may need to use the text editor to do this)
you may need to right click it, preferences, and check the box that allows running the file as a program
that's it, boot up the game and enjoy your online

also, for me the above steps fixed the problem on a fresh save file, but if the online messages aren't showing up for some reason, go and talk to Enia next to the two fingers in roundtable hold, for some reason this re-initializes online features and it fixes the problem.

for some reason fromsoft still hasn't rolled out an update to make it work on steamdeck/linux

Worked for me!

1. go to steamapps/common/Elden Ring/game
2. create new txt file
3. name it DLC.blt
4. right-click > Properties > 'make executable'
5. Profit!

Omg, this actually worked! Im online now! I had just bought the game and wasnt able to access online features to begin with, which really bummed me out, but this did it!

Trying it now, doesn't work anymore. Just get "A connection error occurred. Starting in offline mode." message on start-up.

Internet connection is fine, other games are fine, just Elden Ring.

Just saw your post. Had the same issue. I reinstalled it on my steamdeck and deleted DLC.blt. Now it connects again. Maybe it's worth a try.
