DS1 is the worst game in the series. Seems like common sense.

DS1 < DS2 < DS3 < Elden Ring

Further explanation:
1. The Bed of Chaos is nowhere near the worst boss in all of the souls games. I am not saying that it was a good boss or even a decent boss, but it was not a horrendous and painstaking boss like people had led me to believe when first playing DSR. Youtubers like DeModcracy had been leading me to believe that tears were gonna be running down my face when facing off with this boss. I stepped into the bossroom, prepared myself and had the most tame boss fight off my life. You walk to one side, then walk to the other side, then walk to the middle. I died two times trying to treck over to the opposite sides but I was surprisingly not even mad. I just took the short walk back to the boss room which is something I can’t say about most other bosses in DSR but we will get back to that soon. Bosses from the souls games I consider to be worse consist of: The Spear of The Church and its terrible npc boss combat from DS3, The headless ape duo and Guardian ape from Sekiro, The Champion Gravetender and Greatwolf from DS3, and the Centipede Demon from DSR.

2. Artorias of the Abyss from DSR is nothing but a decent, B-tier boss. I was very excited for the DLC for DSR because of the constant hype I hear centering every boss. How hard Manus was, how great Kalameet was, and of course the legend of Artorias the Abysswalker. Artorias was definitely one of the best bosses in Dark Souls Remastered don’t get me wrong, but that really isn’t saying much. Artorias to me is essentially the best of a bad situation. The cherry on top to a steaming pile of crap. I believe that many people only praise him for this legendary fight for nostalgia. I am a newer souls player so I compared him to bosses from newer titles and I was soon disappointed. If I saw Artorias as a boss from a game like DS3, I would simply think nothing of it and move on. His moveset is surprisingly basic with no real big AOE attack or something that may make him stick out. I expected him to at least have a cool second phase but he just powered up which was incredibly lame. I have heard of his lore and I have studied up on it and while I do think it is very interesting and certainly makes him a lot cooler to fight, It does not save his actual boss fight

3. DSR is the worst souls game out of all the ones that I’ve played and I really do not think my opinion will change after completing the series. My main issue with the game is that most of the bosses are either terrible or painfully average with the exception of O&S. I was going to give some credit to the creators of the Dark Souls series because this was their first game, but then it hit me that it wasn’t. I tried so hard to think of something to defend this game so that it came even remotely close to the others, but I could seriously think of nothing. The bosses look basic and have basic movesets. I hated traversing the world. The bonfires were terrible seeing how you could not teleport between them, but instead had to go on a journey to do anything in ds1. I thought there was light at the end of the tunnel when I learned about getting the ability the TP between bonfires but turns out what it REALLY means was that you can only TP to SOME of the bonfires. The only reason why I stuck to the game and ended up beating it was because I felt that as a Souls game advocate, I was obligated to play it.

I've been struggling through DSR for a while... I have a really hard time getting myself to play it. I want to experience the entire soulsbourne series, but I find very little enjoyment in DSR/DS1. I'm not going to say it's a bad game, but I sure don't like playing it.

The only one I agree with is number 3.

Dark souls 1 being one of the worst in the series Is one I honestly agree with, DS2 is better hands down.

I hated Gwyndolin. I was pleased to cheese him with arrows. ;)

Bed of chaos was a change of paste, but I think the main issue are the very tight timings for getting through to what you have to do. I doubt I'm the only one who just cheeses the two roots you have to destroy with bow and arrow, and that shouldn't be something the player wants to do.

It could have needed a more interesting set of moves, and a 2nd phase maybe where it gets up or something like this, where you think now you have to fight it but will realize you can't kill it until you look and find the worm thingy, would have been great!

I rather take a meh designed gimmick boss instead of a glorified way block like half of the bosses in DS2, any day.

The long path to the Bed of Chaos is what makes most players hate it, I think, cause that experience influences your opinion about the whole thing a lot. Imagine having to put on a ring and than remove it and run 2-3 minutes, having to fight Gael. That would have put a dent in his status a bit. They almost ruined Arotorias with that.

Artorias is an incredible boss, I don't understand how you can say otherwise. He's a better boss than any boss in DS 2. He would even be good in DS3 but he would have to move a little faster. On top of the incredible change of how a boss acts and moves, he also has the best build up in terms of lore and status, and the reveal of what happened to him.

DS1, as with all your takes, without elaboration... in terms of gameplay, sure, it's least responsive... oh wait, no, that would be DS2 with its floaty animations, backwards floating when hit, floating when rolling...
I like the combat pasting of DS1 the most. I would love another game that has the variety of Elden Ring in terms of movesets, but with a little slower overall paste like DS1 is.

I agree I like DS2 more as well but I think DS3 is easily the worst one.

The bosses are cool but everything else is horrible.

DS2 is barely Dark Souls, the changes to the formula were far too drastic and many of the bosses were unfun cheesefests. I beat that game out of pure spite.

DS1 was something fresh and revolutionary at the time, and some design decisions still hold up today. However, it's somewhat clunky and dated at this point.

What? DS3 had waaaaaaay bigger changes than DS2 had.

I also have no idea what you mean with ''cheesefests''. They were pretty easy, just like DS1 bosses. The only one I could think of that would fit that word is Ancient Dragon
