Leaving aside the endless, stupid, pointless argument about invasions, simply being able to play the game with my brother without dealing with all of the bizarre jank the default co-op mode has was great.
Capital-Gs seem to forget that gaming has always been a for-profit business first and foremost, lauding as they do such cutting insights as "gaming journos produce artificial hype for games," as if Nintendo Power didn't exist before these market-analysis gurus were even born. Companies exist for the benefit of their shareholders/investors, and that means chasing profit; a larger consumer base has the potential to provide larger profits. The follow-on logic here is pretty simple.
Beyond that, all franchises evolve over time. The concern for fans becomes when to keep holding on, and when to let go. I've been a Final Fantasy fan going back to the first game's western release on the NES in 1990, but the emo-kid fashion simulator the series became after VII (with the exception of IX, which is straight fire, and hopefully really is getting that oft-rumored remake) told me that the franchise was moving in a direction that meant it wasn't for me anymore.
And that was okay. We don't own the people who produce work we enjoy; our portion as consumers is to vote with our wallets--the creators' portion is to decide how many "old" wallets they're willing to lose to court potentially greater numbers of "new" wallets.
Same logic applies here. If Souls games with integrated Seamless Co-op is a bridge too far beyond the series you first fell in love with, then you have to make a choice: hold on hoping they reverse course, or walk away.
I imagine many will choose the third road, though: holding on while whining incessantly the entire time.
For my part, I haven't enjoyed invasions going back to Demon's in 09, and I've appreciated the franchise's options for avoiding them (which were present in all of the games except Dark 2, and were not strictly limited to playing offline), so I'm not overly bothered by this potential change in pathways.
...I can hear some arteries clanging shut in rage from a certain someone, though.
nevertheless imperfect mechanics is logical step to take.
I would most certainly be interested in it, as I have confidence in devs.
They proved many times they know what they're doing.
I am only worried for our neighbourhood friendly dragon blood pressure :-)
Pvp is only really a niche in fromsoftware game and not really a main selling point for the game.
Seems logical they'd consider giving people the option to not have to pvp in multiplayer.
Keep in mind i dont support the seamless co op mod because any mod that circumvents current game design for player advantage is cheating regardless what arguments one tries to make.
But i also wonder if so many people hadnt felt the need to cheat in invasions and make low level smurfs to constantly gank newbies would the co op seamless mod have been thiis popular in first place?
So, he wants to make mmorpgs?
However copers (spelling intended) might be disappointed to learn that "seamlessness" of coop is not about removing invasions.
He graces us with his presence. We're not worthy!
While pure conjecture since we can't go back in time and do something about it to experience a different outcome, it seems pretty obvious that the answer is "Yes".
Mainly because souls multiplayer functions have never been super thought out beyond "hey, this idea sounds cool right?" and then slapped on a bit haphazardly.
Modders go and fix that.
So even without cheaters and griefers and twinks and what have you, the functionality always leaves a lot to be desired and players feel they need to change it if possible.
