Non-faith build 1H + shield build?

So I'm trying to see if I can put together a rather plain Jane "knight" built that uses Long Sword/Mace + Heater shield.

However, the last time I played, I was more faith focused since that was suggested to me.

Going this route, do I still want to invest heavily into strength or should I hit the hard cap (I think it's 80?) for it and then start dumping my stats into other things like Vigor and Endurance?

I didn't allocate my stats the last time I tried doing a run, a friend of mine had suggested the spread so I'm still learning how to make decent builds.

Go high endurance. You can handle heavy armor easily and essentially block forever.

True, higher endurance would let me wear heavier armor to increase my poise.

Though I'm curious how much End I would need to get to light encumbrance while wearing something like the Vagabond or Knights armor set.

Do you think using Carian Retaliations AoW on the shield is too much of a crutch while trying to use parry on medium shields?
