We have a lot of examples. The most glaring one is she clearly says she has to go into a "slumber" every now and then because her doll body is an hinderance, the whole persona non grata thing doesn't really work as there's nobody in the Lands Between who is still sane enough to hate her.
The second, and very obvious one, is we get to fight Ranni in the Rennala fight, and she's incredibly weak compared to the other demigods. She presents herself as Ranni the witch, her summons are a Giant(Iji) a Dragon(Adula), a Bloodhound Knight(Blaidd) and 3 wolves, like the ones resting in front of her tower. Rennala doesn't die when you beat her, because we aren't fighting Rennala, we're fighting Ranni.
Third, she doesn't go to Nokron on her own to recover the blade, she needs someone else to do it for her, despite her entire plan depending on it, there's no reason for her to just sit around in her tower once Radahn is dead.
Then there's the fact that she does not, at any point, do anything to advance her plans or oppose the Tarnished even if you pick the Flame of Frenzy, despite it being diametrically opposed to her plans, Melina straight up promises to kill you if you pick the FoF ending. Ranni just waits around.
Then there's the fact she is the only questline NPC that does not assist you at any point in her own questline, even thought it make sense that she would, especially since her plan cannot progress without your victory.
Sixth, once the black knives attack them, she does not protect Iji or Blaidd despite saying she loves them, she goes FURTHER into hiding.
We also have the fact that the Knights of the Cuckoo straight up took over Liurnia from the Carian Royals after Rennala went insane, meaning she either did nothing to avoid it or just couldn't do anything about it.
Lastly, her current body is a decoy for her real body is sitting in a secret location, accessed through a portal, in a magically sealed tower, in an area only accessible by defeating Loretta, in a mansion protected by a spell that rains hell on whoever gets closed to it, and Iji is in front of the path leading to it telling people not to go there. That's downright being paranoid that someone will find you, you don't go through all that effort unless you're extremely fragile. ...and someone eventually does find her.
She is scared of the Baleful Shadow, and asks you to defeat it for her, why would she need you to fight for her if she could it fight herself? There's no reason other than her being weaker than the Shadow. And the Baleful Shadow is laughably weak.
Essentially, if you don't do Ranni's questline, at some point during the ending, she just gets killed by the Shadow, and that's that.
I'm done with lore dumping for three months at least.
Isn't it also mentioned at the round table hold that she gave up her "gift" from the shards? This on it's own would help imply how much weaker she is.
Heartattack..
There's actually plenty more examples of Ranni using roundabout ways to avoid putting herself in danger, but that comment was already a little too long for my likings.
If he dies, you miss his magic scorpion charm. If you don't already have it from previous NG, I can drop it to you.
