Only completed that game last week, Chapter 4 boss wasn't so bad by the end once I finally got the hang of it.
That boss had nothing on the final bosses from the "Raven" ending and the "Alea" ending. Even after beating them and doing the missions again for the S Rank, I still have zero clue how to reliably dodge the melee attacks. Could do the exact same dodge with the exact same timing and it would miss once and hit the next. Did my head in.
Mohgs spear could possibly be the easiest. 60-80 Arcane on the first game and just use the weapon art. It is very cheesy in the way of her not getting to waterfowl dance for a second time. A lot of enemies are very easy like that. Radagon is also one of them. If it bleeds, it dies very quickly. The weapon art's range makes it so much easier.
All in all although its among my fav gameseries and a genremaker, the FS bosses are getting old for me. Phases are just a timewaster and glitchy tryhards like Malenia are more patience test then skillcheck to me.
DLC will most likely be my swansong with Miyazakis games until they eventually go and release that Bloodborne remake.
Regarding Malenia specifically, with waterfowl she's a cartoon. But without it, she would be a wimp. If the quality varies to such a degree on one aspect, I'd say it's not well designed. Running away at intervals to smash a glintstone scrap to bait out this attack is so dumb. If you flipped the conversation around, all the other bosses would be telling Malenia "You're only winning because you use OP builds".
I liked Malenia more than I thought. But that has nothing to do with her boss fight.
The healing is the big BS in this fight. Without it she would be laughtable easy.
I mean the waterfowl is doing nothing against a proper shield.
For me as a sword and board player the hardest thing was to learn that i HAVE to dodge every single thing she throws at you instead of blocking.
She is the only boss forcing you so hard in one direction.
a great shield trivializes this entire encounter to a ridicolous level, without healing on hit she'd bite the dust in 2 minutes flat
