Modded characters within your own save = safe so long as you don't load them up in-game online

Some other save file from online = gets detected without loading any specific character up while online

The whole save file is treated as corrupt.

Modded character as in how? If you directly modified your stats you'll get banned.

are you certain? so in order to play online i'd have to use a whole different save file?

download a cheat engine save editor off nexus, remove any and all modded items from your inventory, then download a save converter off nexus and convert your modded save to your standard elden ring save slot. here's a video i found that worked for me, it will be slightly different for you if you have mods other than seamless coop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esxba5OI5GM&t=58s

this isn't my problem as i already know how to do this, my question was since each save file can have MULTIPLE characters by pressing "new game" does simply having a modded character get you banned even if you use a clean character? or can you just keep the save file and use the clean character

I think there is only one way to find out :ujel:
If I am being honest you are uploading your savefile to fromsoft server and it's a judge whether it's legit or it's not. It likely doesn't care about specific character you want to play with. It checks the file.
